Will need a cancellation policy too.

We're 2 adults and 2 DCs travelling to Florida in August.

We always went with the Post Office.

We have an annual policy. DD has a policy with M&S. You must ensure it covers long haul and has suitable cover for medical expenses. Don’t go cheap and have this section too low. Hopefully you’ll never need it but if you do, you need a lot of $$$$$ to cover the costs. Also make sure your belongings are adequately covered. Add up what you are likely to take at replacement value.

Annual policy through NatWest. One of the premium accounts.

Another factor might be whether the corona virus affects flights, travel, etc.

Would any of these policies cover that eventuality if we had to cancel?

You’ll be able to find the P&O, M&S & NatWest policy details online if you ask Google. If it’s not clear from the policy bumpf if you’re going to be covered in this eventuality, call the contact centre and get an answer from the horses mouth.

We’re currently using a Puffin. It wasn’t the cheapest but the T&Cs seem to be pretty solid.

PO not P&AI!

SJaneS48 · 24/02/2020 08:28

God, P&O even!

Need to check terms and conditions to see what they cover for coronavirus - most do not cover if you just decide you don't want to go due to it, most will cover if FCO advice goes to don't travel.

I'm very limited on what insurer I can use as going through hospital tests but this is our one and quite a few scenarios we would lose anything non-refundable, basically we would only get our money back if FCO advice is don' travel 48 hours before hand. You also have to have the annual policy starting before FCO advice changes to be able to claim. We are not covered for medical reasons for cancelling unless new but not much I can do about that as very few places will insure me. I would try to book fully refundable whereever possible.

Think a lot of insurers have exclusions for pandemics as well, not declared as such yet but with spread in Italy might happen within next couple of weeks.
