We are thinking about going to poland in the summer. We are going to Berlin first so will be crossing over quite far north. Driving and camping. Any tips for places to visit, things to do including a beach/lake to chill out and do nothing for a few days.
With 3 active dss (who also like site-seeing) 15, 13 and 13.

What about Gdańsk and a few days at the Baltic coast, Sopot etc. Info here

Todayissunny · 11/02/2020 20:25

Thanks midsomer.
Have you been there?

I haven't but I had looked at that area with a view to going. Gdansk sounds interesting, fully restored after being virtually obliterated in WWII and I have been to the Baltic coast elsewhere. It's very lovely.

I'm not as familiar with the north of Poland but Gdańsk/Gdynia/Sopot are popular destinations and would be worth looking into, there's also the Hel peninsula up there which is meant to be very pretty.

You could also consider Mazury, the Polish Lake District, should be plenty of outdoor activities there: https://theculturetrip.com/europe/poland/articles/a-guide-to-visiting-masuria-poland/

If you're willing to travel further south you could head to the Tatry mountains and make a few stops on the way (e.g in Wroclaw and Kraków). The Tatry mountains are beautiful Smile

Damn I forgot how beautiful Poland is... 🥰

Go and see Torun city. It's not very well advertised but it's beautiful and there is plenty to do. 2/3 days of great experience theculturetrip.com/europe/poland/articles/the-best-things-to-see-and-do-in-torun-poland/

Thanks all. I've read your replies and had a quick look. I'm going to spend some time looking at the weekend. Any more suggestions greatly appreciated Smile.

If you don’t want to travel as far as Gdansk or Masuria Lakes, there is an Island called Usedom on the Baltic Sea. It’s in north-east Germany but half of the island belongs to Poland as it’s right on the border line - its an open border so you could cycle the length of the island going through both countries overlooking the sea.
You could stay on the Polish side to keep the costs down. There is no road connection to mainland on the Polish side , you need to go by ferry which adds to the experience. The beach has been voted the most beautiful beach of the Baltic coast multiple times. It’s very wide with golden sand. The town is called Swinoujscie.
Miedzyzdroje is another riviera-like town 20 minutes drive away.
They are famous for world war 2 fortifications, cycling paths, national park where you can see European bison, big aquarium on the German side and a few waterparks.

Hope this helps

I forgot about the lighthouse on the Polish side of the island. It’s picturesque.

We've been to gdansk.. Would highly recommend. We stayed at the bottom of Sopot one row back from beach. (near Ronald regan Park) and got the very cheap bus in.
The solidarity museum was surprisingly good, the ww2 museum fantastic. Both were cheap. Beaches lovely going up coast, food inexpensive and varied.. Unlike UK coastal areas its really set up for mixed weather so lots of options if weather isn't great (gokarting and alike). We enjoyed a potter around gdansk, didn't get chance to do pirate ship excursion or go to the very large castle that's a train drive away (but it looks lovely)

sydenhamhiller · 23/02/2020 22:01

Oooh! So glad I found this (don’t mean to hijack OP).
We’re thinking of going to Gdańsk over Easter, but only for a couple days as oldest DC has GCSEs. 3 nights in Gdańsk doable with kids? Should we postpone and go without kids...

Coffeeonadrip · 23/02/2020 22:10

If you stay in Gdansk/seaside for a bit you can take a train out to Malbork as a day trip if you/kids are into medieval castles etc

sydenhamhiller. There is definately lots to do. Easter could be cold.. Hopefully it's be dry. Factor in that museums etc are shut Mondays I think. Some might be Easter Sunday too.
WW2 museum.. Might be worth queuing for tickets early or getting them for as later date as you queue for tickets and are given a time slot.
