Tell me about a lovely holiday you've had in late March (anywhere)

I've never been on holiday outside the UK with my OH and I'm excited that we have just booked a week off at the end of March. I just CANNOT work out where to go. Thought we'd settled in Corralejo but then I did some Google street view and just didn't like the vibe.

Where have you enjoyed visiting in March? I need recommendations

We like:
Warm weather (but not essential as we can always have a different type of holiday)
Culture
Nature/Wildlife
Gentle activities (I'll be 24 weeks pregnant)

We don't like:
Noisy tourist strips with bars and british-style restaurants
Nothing to do (unless it's so hot we don't need to move from pool)
Huge hotels

Think quiet boutique hotel with pool and a local town we could potter in for meals. Would consider UK or Northern Europe even though it's cold if the hotel was worth it. Would consider long haul. Budget around £2000 total (including airport parking, spends etc)

Thanks in advance

Get a jet2 package to Malaga, pick a nice hotel on the coast south. It’s quiet at that time of year, hire a car for a few days and visit (and stay over in ) Seville. Also visit Ronda. Also visit the Caminito Del Rey.

Thailand Philippines, Vietnam all great in march

Came on to say Malaga too. I’ve never been in March but am going this year at that time. Go to Grenada too and visit the Alhambra, one of my favourite places there.

Highly recommend a spa hotel in Ireland - aghadoe heights, muckross in county Kerry. If you want sun I would say Sevilla in Spain is a good shout. Last year I went to Rome at the end of March and the weather was pleasant.

Nerja on the Costa del Sol. Visit Frigliana and Almunecar and Granada Alhambra Palace.

Madeira. We went in March, t shirt weather in the daytime, light jacket in the evening. Lots of bars, restaurants, cafes in Funchal. Hire a car, it’s quite a small island but fantastically scenic. Several gardens to visit. Wide range of hotels. We stayed in Quinta da Casa Branca which was beautiful and not huge, walking distance to central Funchal.

Crete is good that time of year. A lot of historical stuff to see and do and lovely food. High chance of decent weather too.

We did a Seville, Granada, Malaga plus a few days in Benalmadena at that time of year. We got really lucky with the weather but it isn’t guaranteed in March.

Not been in March went in September but Taormina in Sicily was lovely, lots of small hotels in historic centre, should be around 20C then (high), quite cultured and Roman ruins. Maderia is nice too.

Also went to Venice at very start of March which was lovely and cultured though we got snow Shock - think we hit an exceptionally cold time. Lovely to see snow in Venice though. Easyjet etc do cheap flights.

Dubrovnik - beautiful that time of year as fewer crowds and roads not busy. We stayed just out of the city itself and hired a car. Travelled down the coast a bit to see Cavtat and Ston. Really fabulous place to visit.

Thank you everyone- some brilliant and very appealing ideas that I just wouldn't have thought of. Will definitely be looking at at few of those online later and hopefully book something up.

Portugal is lovely at that time of year- Lisbon or Porto for a city break or the Algarve for beaches and pottering.

CameFromAway · 04/02/2020 15:51

Rome is fabulous in March. Venice too, as long as your week falls before the massive cruise ships come and ruin it for the summer.

The south of France.

We went to Paphos/Cyprus last year, half board for less than £350 each with Tui. Lovely hotel and weather - managed to get a bit sunburned on the second day! It was really quiet in terms of the number of people around but most things were open. I'd do it again.

I'm going to lanzarote mid March and I can't wait. Its usually low to mid 20s, I love the Canarian cuisine, there's lots to see and do, and it's cheap.

Madeira, not been myself but my father enthused so much it is definitely one place I'd like to go one day., he always came back with fantastic photos of gardens visited and scenic views.
