Hi we are travelling to NY the first week of April , I tried to book to view the Statue of Liberty Crown but it’s all booked up the same applies to the Rock , is there a chance that we might get tickets when we arrive ?
Any advice please ?

I'm surprised by that, we didn't book anything in advance when we went. There were people on the street outside the rock selling tickets to go up.
To see the Statue of Liberty we just went on the Staten Island ferry.

The crown is probably booked because a lot of schools are off then. But you won’t have any problems with top of the rock. I thought the Statue of Liberty was spectacularly boring.

I just went a looked at the Rock and they seemed to be available first week in April. Did you go in the proper website? Also were you being fussy about time? I think I looked at 9am and it was free.

MiniGuinness · 28/01/2020 06:30

I haven’t been in the crown though, I only went to the island because I had guests staying. I prefer looking at it from Manhattan.

Apolloanddaphne · 28/01/2020 06:31

When I say free I mean available not no cost!

Apolloanddaphne · 28/01/2020 06:35

I've been up to the crown. It is so small that it can only accommodate a few people at a time so you can only look for moments then you need to move on. Not really worth it. Best to be looked at from afar I think.

Chanel05 · 28/01/2020 07:02

I think they only sell around 500 crown tickets per day. They go on sale 6 months in advance and are gone quite quickly so I'm afraid it's very unlikely you'll be able to get them as they don't sell them on the day.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/01/2020 09:43

What Chanel wrote.

Its is far easier to obtain tickets to the Top of the Rock so you should not have any trouble with these.

My OH went onto the Rock website there was loads of dates available in April we selected but when it came to payment it said error he tried again to no avail
I don’t feel so bad about the crown now , there was availability for the pedestal is that worth doing ?

Just use the Staten Island ferry to see the statue, so much else to be doing. You'll be fine for TOTR tickets when you get there, if not one of the other observatories

Applejack87 · 28/01/2020 13:03

Thankyou all so much , we’ve managed to book the Rock there must have been a problem with their website this morning
I’ll take your advice & catch the Staten Ferry as well

Just turn up early on the morning you would like to do them! Get tickets there and then!

SpoonBlender · 28/01/2020 13:25

It's not worth doing the pedestal, no - there's no view from there that you can't get from ground level. Take the ferry over and wander around.

Do get yourself up one of the big towers in Manhattan though - we went over in 2000 and didn't go up the WTC because it was a bit expensive - $30 each or something. Bad decision.

crustycrab · 28/01/2020 13:27

OP has said she's booked Top of the Rock.

Visibility can sometimes be an issue so I'd always check the weather on the day first for any other pps thinking of it

Liberty Island has a new museum we wouldn’t have wanted to miss. We loved it. We did the pedestal and did get some good views. You’re just under the feet of the statue.

We took this tour cruise rather than the Staten Island ferry and I'm so glad we did. The commentary was informative, and in addition to seeing the Statue of Liberty, got to see more of the Manhattan Skyline and round under Brooklyn Bridge which you wouldn't do from the ferry. Highly recommend it.

She’s beautiful up close and the museum has the original glass torch. Was really interesting seeing how she was made.

Definitely go to liberty island - it’s a lovely trip. You can buy tickets on the day and ideally need good weather but get there as early as possible (8-8.30) as the ferry queues build up very quickly.
The short ferry ride is lovely and the statue looks amazing and much bigger close up. Museum is just the right size and very interesting- original prototype models and drawings etc. Views of Manhattan from the island are wonderful and you’ll get some great selfies. Good quality restaurant and gift shop.
Ellis island also included and very interesting but the museum here is very detailed- we didn’t get to look at everything. Would highly recommend but you need 5-6 hours to do it all properly and nice weather preferably.
