We have a free return rail ticket to London tomorrow, what can we do or see thats relatively cheap and that will keep our 8yr old ds1 happy and is accessible with ds2 (1 yr old)in his buggy.
We have done the natural history museum and the science museum before,
so any new recommendations??
please?

walking along the south bank is lovely - cross over at the houses of parliament. YHOu can go on the Eye (or not) , just take in the sights. The Qquarium is there as well, and if you keep walking a lovely place called Gabriel's Wharf has great pizza and a few neat shops

LucyJones · 28/08/2007 20:12

Yes, your 8 year old will love London Acquarium.

YOu can also gho up to the Tate Modern on the South Bank (free entry to much of it) and go across the 'swingy' bridge

There are lots of street entertainers, and a good bit under the BFI (I think) where there are always loads of skateboarders - ds thinks watching them is the best thing about going to London

My two loved the Diana Memorial Park, thing is in Kensington Gardens. Has huge wooden pirate ship and lots other things. Nice cafe with coffee etc while you watch them!

If you go to Tate Modern, my dcs really enjoyed the activity things you take round with you and do different art techniques etc. They also like looking round Borough Food Market just round the corner. They do lots nice hot sandwiches etc if you don't want to eat in restaurant.

thankyou, i was trying to remember the name of the park that we used to go to when we were little and all the sparrows would come and sit on your hand? do they still do that?

the pirate ship sounds good so far, sure to wear them out.

Globe Theatre is interesting if he has done or is doing the Tudors, they do a full tour if there is no performance on and you can underneath to the exhibition.

We are off to London tomorrow too.

Are the giant slides still in operation in Tate modern? (My teenage visitors would love them!)

And does anyone know if you are still allowed to feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square - family debate about this.

hana · 30/08/2007 22:34

nope to feeding the pigeons - not many there. Ken forbids it! although you prob still could if you really wanted to

nooka · 30/08/2007 22:35

The slides are gone, and feeding the pigeons is I think illegal (or was it just that Ken banned it - I can't remember). Kensington Gardens is a great playground to visit - the other thing you can do there (although I haven't) is visit the Lido, which I think is on the Serpentine.

Lilymaid · 30/08/2007 22:37

The park with the tame sparrows would possibly be (from my experience) Kensington Palace Gardens.

ladybug007 · 30/08/2007 22:39

Also near London Bridge/Borough Market is a reconstruction of the Golden Hinde, the ship that Francis Drake sailed on, which your 8 year old would probably like. It's on the South Bank just round the corner from Southwark Cathedral. Think you can go on board and look around. And HMS Belfast is interesting, just further east along the South Bank.

We're off to London tomorrow too. We're staying for 2 nights.

Kensigton gardens sound fab. Our Hotel is in Kensington so no too far I don't think.
