New York Hotels - which area is best?

Hi all NY travellers, looking to book for October 2020, two adults and a teenager. I'm fine about all sightseeing but I just can't figure out which hotel and which area is best to stay in. I have been before and we stayed Mid Town, but the city has evolved since then and I'm wondering if we would be better suited to staying in Soho, Greenwich Village or Tribeca. We definitely want to go to 9/11 Memorial, the Highline, Staten Island ferry or Liberty Island.

If anyone has any hotel recommendations, please share. I like the look of Moxy NYC Chelsea, AKA Tribeca, Roxy, The Hugo. Or should we just play it safe and go to somewhere like Intercontinental Times Square or the Stewart? Is it worth staying in one of the quieter, more fashionable districts? We are happy to walk everywhere.

Trip Advisor is boggling my brain, can any of you advise me?

I always stay at the Marlton in Greenwich Village, it's cosy has a great bar and cafe and has an interesting history. It's an easy walk to the Highline and easy enough to get to the Staten Island Ferry

We went in December and stayed at 11 Howard. We did all of the things you mentioned. It is a longer walk to times sq, central park etc but we tended to walk there and get a taxi back.

We got a great rate for the Soho Grand last time we were there. Soho has some amazing hotels but they can be expensive. However the area is superb. It’s streets are more intimate. There are distinct neighbourhoods, great restaurants, and everyone is a bit more friendly. We would stay down there again. You wouldn’t be walking to Central Park but of course there is the subway and taxis!

I like the Bowery hotel, it’s Lower East Side and walkable to Soho, Greenwich Village, Brooklyn Bridge, Financial District and everything in mid-town is still not too far. Lots of interesting shops, bars and restaurants nearby too - it’s a fairly young/interesting area.

Hotel is lovely, cosy and friendly www.theboweryhotel.com/

I’ve just returned from my third NYC trip. First time, I stayed in Chinatown and absolutely loved it but the last two times, I stayed in NoMad. I think it’s the best location to get anywhere. I stayed at the Arlo. It was great for a solo stay but rooms are too small for a couple and big suitcases. I walked 60 miles in 6 days and cycled loads. Didn’t use the subway much.

I’m going in June with my son and have booked the Rui plaza Times Square
I booked it because you can get rooms with 2 doubles and it includes breakfast 😂

The Library hotel right near Grand Central station is just lovely, the smallest rooms absolutely fine for 2 by UK standards, even if the hotel think they're only suitable as a single!

I tool my two teens and we stayed at Indigo, Lower East Side. Fab, with a breakfast in a bag counter and a rooftop pool. Close to the Tenement Museum & lots of authentic delis.

We have stayed at The Library too. Definitely would recommend it and well placed for transport and walking.

@Swiftier LOVE the Bowery hotel. I live in NY and when I worked in events I always used to try and use the Bowery Hotel for event spaces and room blocks.

I went last march and stayed at the parker 119 w 56th it was ideal location close to times square but not too close about 5-10 mins walk depending on your pace... was close enough to walk but enough out it wasnt mayhem (also has a great little diner called 9 10 around the corner , a Greek family run it, the best muffins and poached eggs ever!!! ) it's close to central park too ome from our party had been to NY 3 times previously and said it was the best area (midtown) she had stayed in for the rest of is it was our first time so had nothing else to compare it to but we loked it

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on west 57th street. Was a good location for us, close to the park, short walk to Broadway and Times Square. Price was good, hotel was fine, good sized rooms, not that we spent much time there anyway. Was a good few years back now, but have all positive memories of it.

We stayed in the Roger Smith hotel on Lexington Avenue. Location wise it was perfect. Walking distance to Times Square, Central Park, Bloomingdales, Empire State and grand central station to get to Brooklyn bridge, Etc. Lovely suite and yoghurt, granola and apples available 24/7.
