We want to book a holiday to Thailand, is it best to just book the flights and accommodation separate? We don't want to stay in the same place we would like to travel around the small islands.

If anyone has any experience please let me know, where is best and best way to do it.

2 adults and a 15 year old.

I used a company called escape world wide
When I went to Thailand I did Bangkok Hau Hin
Then flew to Phuket and then to KS
They have itineraries on line that you can use and you can add / take days off or pick a different hotel
But they will arrange all the transfers and pick ups for you so you don’t have to mess about getting from A- B
They are very good as it’s all quite flexible with regards to what you want

Thank you @Itsjustmee I will look them up

It's so easy to travel around Thailand. I've been visiting once a year for over twenty years and plan my trip myself.

Hollachica · 31/12/2019 15:51

Going for the first time in over 30 years in 2020.
We booked accommodation separate to the flight.
There are some fabulous accommodation deals, try Luxury Escapes.
Our flights are with Eva Air. Premium Economy was £900 return as opposed £1250 with BA and Thai. Econ flights were slightly cheaper then Thai Air, BA was the most expensive.
We are doing 3 nights in Bangkok then going to Khao Lak on Phuket for 10 days.
I still have the International flight to book.

Hollachica · 31/12/2019 15:52

*internal flight not International

PandancerandRabbitoplh · 31/12/2019 16:02

We booked Thailand and Malaysia for next summer and I booked everything directly - flights are with EvaAir c£2k for 4 of us in economy (BA was £3k, Thai was slightly cheaper but wanted a 7/7 safety record). Internal flights are with AirAsia Malaysia. All booked direct with airlines.

Accomodation in Thailand I booked hotels either via Booking.com or directly once happy site was legitimate. Not organised transfers by car yet but you can get transport at airports and from hotel to hotel normally via hotel. It takes longer to do it yourself, but certainly possible.

Thank you for all the information. So looks best to book flights separately to accommodation, do you move hotels or go and stay in one? Also does anyone know the best islands to go too?
I heard from one of the islands you could get a bit to most other islands to visit?
I'm wondering if we should book the flights and then 1 accommodation in Bangkok and stay there for couple of days before moving onto a more remote/relaxed island?

It depends what you are looking for I prefer an island which is quieter

I always stay in Bangkok for a night or two it's great for shopping and food. Just make sure your hotel is close to the BTS or underground, river taxi. Traffic in Bangkok is awful.

KatharinaRosalie · 07/01/2020 12:31

Book separately. Finding transfers in Thailand is super easy and generally much cheaper than through travel agencies or hotels.

PandancerandRabbitoplh · 07/01/2020 14:26

What time of year are you going, that will affect where is good to visit. We are doing couple of nights in Bangkok then moving but not city people.

CoCoPops55 · 07/01/2020 15:00

We prefer quiet too, just looking to relax, but someone said to us we should do a couple of nights in Bangkok first.

Probably looking at going in November or maybe even December for Xmas/new year.

If you haven't been to Bangkok it's definitely worth a visit for The Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun which are all easily accessible by the river boats which are cheap. Jim Thomson's House is interesting. You will love it or hate it. It's one of my favourite cities. As mentioned above you have to stay near MTS or BTS to escape traffic or near a pier stop if near the river.

Prices are hiked up quite a bit over xmas-new year, if that's a concern.
