Dominican Republic with kids?

Its dh's 40th next year and I'm thinking of a wow holiday to celebrate in October half term so we can go for up to two weeks but ideally 9/10 nights. Kids (would be 6 and 10) have never flown longer than 3 hours before and I'm a nervous flyer so it'll be a worry flying but hey. Is there much to do for kids around Bavaro? They'll love playing on the beach and swimming but our typical summer European holidays are TUI with kids clubs etc. Am I right in thinking Dom Rep is the shortest Caribbean flight from London?

Years and years ago, we went to the Barcelo Bavaro with the kids, one a toddler and had the best time ! The complex was huge, seriously immense with a dozen restaurants, one open 25 hours, a small train that went around the resort, a great beach, with warm and shallow water and all the water sports you can think of! There were also pools but we didn't use them as the water was absolutely gorgeous, wiht the typical palm tree beach.

No idea about flight time as we didn't fly from UK but check weather for October, as you might want to go further south to avoid storm season. Aruba might be better in October .

UK's ban on Sharm El sheik has just been lifted and you could have a 5* holiday at half the flight time. You can also wander around the city and safety will be max after the impact the ban had on locals.

The weather will be gorgeous. But don't book any excursions, the risk is still great if you leave the safety of sharm.
