Child's passports

I've just applied for my child's passport online and on the last page it says I have to supply both maternal and paternal birth certificates.

We are no contact with her dad (although I've put his details on as he on the birth cert)- but there is no way in hell I'd ever get his parents birth certs.

Has anyone else had to do this? Or had their application rejected because they haven't sent them?
I don't know what to do and think I've just wasted £49 on the application and £10 on photos!

Both myself and her dad are British. I've supplied my passport number but again, no chance to get his.

I checked before applying and didn't see anything about grandparents.. feeling rather gutted as it's for a family wedding in Santorini next year.

Anybody had to do this? Any advice is gratefully received, although I'm ready to see that I've just pissed money away Sad

Thanks x

Do you know enough about them to buy copies?

dementedpixie · 17/11/2019 15:55

What year were you born? I dont think you do have to get other birth certificates as your passport number shows you are a british citizen and so you are able to pass that citizenship onto your dd.

Maybe call the advice line but I'm almost certain you dont need that extra info

crapcrap · 17/11/2019 16:04

@weirdsmell they say online it has to be the originals

@dementedpixie I was born 1993- I'm praying I don't, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity as a family member has offered to pay for me and her. I'd never be able to give her a holiday like that. I was thinking the same with the passport number so fingers crossed!

Xx

You've got 2 choices. Order them from the general register office or ring the passport office and talk to them very nicely.

From the passport notes I found online:

About grandparents: If the applicant’s parents were born on or after 1 January 1983, you will also need to provide evidence of grandparents’ claim to British nationality by providing their birth certificates and, in the case of grandfathers, their marriage certificates.

This does not apply if: the applicants parents’ British nationality is based on registration, naturalisation or their immigration status, or

the applicant has provided the British passport number for parents’ in Section 4 of the application form

It's HER maternal and paternal birth certs surely, so yours and her fathers. You shouldn't have to provide materna and paternal grandparents unless you're tryintg to get citizenship through them.

I've just spoken to an advisor on the online chat and he said that because I had a passport before she was born I don't need to send off any grandparents information!

Thank you all for your comments, I panicked!

Hopefully it should all be fine! Xx

I've had this, my daughters application was returned and they asked for further details. They're trying to prove that all parties, including grandparents, are entitled to be in this country.

In my case they asked for maternal grandparents date and location of marriage. They also asked for my fathers birth certificate. I simply wrote them a covering letter explaining I didn't know this information. I provided both my parents passport numbers, and those of our living grandparents. I received her passport not long after.

I have seen threads like this before where the online service asks for more information than is required. It's about rights to British citizenship as it's not given just due to being born here. As you have a british passport you can use that to pass on citizenship to your dd

kitk · 17/11/2019 16:22

OP when I applied for DD's passport six years ago I put in notes that I didn't have her father's passport details and he'd stolen mine. In the end I had to submit my birth certificate and my mum's and all was fine. You will get a passport but there might be some added expense in ordering copies of birth certs

dementedpixie · 17/11/2019 16:29

OP doesnt need extra certificates as she has her passport number
