Liquids and flying??

Were going on a 4 hour flight with my 4 month old. I'll need to take 4 bottles with me to cover the time from leaving the house and getting to our resort. With the restrictions on liquids at check in what can i take? If there is just water in a baby bottle with the powder in top in a small container x 5 bottles will they let that on?

If not will i be allowed 5 ready made cartons of formula?

Has anyone flown from the UK recently and experienced this?? I sure i can cos everyone has to feed they're babies at some point!!

They make exceptions from the usual rules if it's for a baby.
You can basically take whatever you need.
They'll check it, but let it go through.
It's quite useful. I got away with taking a bottle of water for myself because I had a baby.

You can take baby supplies, but you have to be prepared to taste it first.

You can also buy what you need airside (there is often a Boots), or take powder and get it made up on the plane.

But if i have to taste it then it is no longer sterile.

I ca take powder and make it up on the plane but i still need to tske the bottles of boiled water with me.
I'm sure it'l be fine but i hate the idea of being stuck when i get there

Having flown last week I can confirm that the restriction is on what you can take through security. Once you're through you can buy whatever you need airside so check what shops are available at the departure airport. The BAA website has some useful contacts and most major airports have theor own websites with lists of shops available (possibly even with phone numbers, I cn't quite remember.)

but then how do i guarentee they sell the right formula in the small cartons?

Can you tell im a panicer (if thats a word)

What's wrong with the water on the plane, Nannyjo?

nannyjo · 19/08/2007 18:54

boiling hot water do you mean. I'd have to ask the staff to fill 3 bottles of boiling water and what about whilst waiting to board, go to a cafe i s'pose and ask if they'll fill a bottle with 6 ozs of boiling water. Is it definitely at boiling point though or just very hot??

Sorry, I've only ever breastfed. What's the problem?

RuthChan · 20/08/2007 00:28

I have only ever bf, so I've never had to carry formula, but they never questioned my bottles of water.
I wasn't asked to taste it or anything.
If you take bottles of water and cartons of your preferred powder, you'll be able to make it up yourself on the plane.
Don't worry, they're not monsters and in my experience they're quite flexible when it comes to people travelling with babies.

Which airport are you flying from? If its a large one like Manchester you should be able to buy cartons after security, and if its not your usual one I'm afraid you'll have to made do or take some powder with you.
I'd take bottles already made up myself, and if they get you to taste it, it won't affect the baby really. I mean is it any worse to sticking your unwashed nipple in the babies mouth, or the baby being on the floor??

Hi - here's link to Dept for Transport website re restrictions, says you can take 'sufficient for journey' but may have to taste - perhaps re tasting you can squeeze a bit out on back of your hand??
