Las Vegas and New York hotel recommendations

My DH and I are looking at spending a few days is Las Vegas and New York early next year, flying between them. We quite liked the look of the The Linq in Las Vegas, although it looks quite party-ish so a bit concerned it will be full of hen and stag parties?! Also we've realised you can book smoking or non smoking rooms, not sure if a non-smoking hotel is a thing? We would like a very central hotel, with a casino, easy walking distance to the main attractions. Budget of £200 a night maximum.

New York seems vast and we aren't quite sure where to start, location is probably key. Recommendations needed please. Budget of £150 a night, could stretch to £200 if needed.

Look at the Captain's Cabin rooms at The Jane hotel in NYC. You won't find many hotels within your budget in NYC though.

In Vegas have a look at the SLS. It's at the end of the strip, but a bit cheaper and excellent rooms and restaurants.

The bon-smoking hotels in Vegas will be non-gaming. Any hotel with a casino will have smoking. And casino hotels are cheaper as it’s yge casino that makes the money and the cheap room rates are to lure people into the casino. A non-gaming hotel has yo make its money through the hotel operations - rooms, restaurants, etc. We go to Vegas regularly as it’s only two hours to fly from here. Most recently we stayed at the Signature but I think my favorite was The Venetian. Avoid the very cheap ones such as Circus Circus, Excalibur, Flamingo, Stratosphere and Luxor, etc. They are cheap for a reason.

@BritWifeinUSA hope you don't mind me asking but whats wrong with the flamingo? We have booked to stay there next year.. it was part of the package deal we booked so no hotel choice.. worried now!! Please be honest even if brutal x

Greedytiger · 17/11/2019 18:32

We stayed in Caesars palace in LV and The Library Hotel (near Grand Central Station) in NYC. Would recommend both.

Think it will be slightly above your budget but for NY I would definitely recommend The Casablanca. Gorgeous little hotel right next to Times Square (if Broadway is your thing!). It’s a little oasis amongst the chaos. They do a free cheese and wine reception every evening and serve free tea and coffee throughout the day. Lovely breakfasts too, which are included in the price. We stayed there on our honeymoon and I would love to go back!

For Vegas we stayed at the New York New York. Great location on the strip and a really fun hotel! Smile

I also used Holiday USA. Got great rates

I went to Vegas in June I stayed at the flamingo
It’s opposite the linq

It’s very noisy location as it’s right on the strip and if you have a room overlooking the walkway where the zip line goes the music goes on till 4am most nights and even 12 floors up with ear plugs I could still hear the noise

If I wanted a hotel close to everything I would probably pick the The Paris Hotel rooms look
A bit old fashioned but the hotel grounds with the tower are amazing
If you stay in any. Ceasar hotel you can use hotels pools of the same level for free

So although we stayed at the much cheaper flamingo we spent a lot of time at the Paris pool area
You can also use Caesar’s pool area for I think 20 usd a day
I’m off to New York in June next year with my son and I have booked the Rui Plaza Times Square
Mainly cos it has twin beds and inc breakfast
But also the location is great and I’ve stayed in Rui hotels many times and never had a crap time

DullPortraits
I stayed at the flamingo for two weeks in June
Location is fabulous you have everything you want on the doorstep
Room was very nice two double beds great aircon and fridge and lovely huge walk in shower ( lots of the more expensive hotels charge for a fridge )
Couldn’t fault it great location only thing was the noise from the music outside - seriously loud
Pool atmosphere was brilliant and each weekend you had pool parties with well known DJS playing for free

I only paid £2000 for 2 of us inc flights from uk and hotel for 2 weeks and we had a great time
I wasn’t there to gamble so I just wanted a nice decent clean hotel to use a base to sightsee from

Of all of the ones that were mentioned above to avoid The Flamingos has the best location
The others are to far down the strip in my opinion and the wild life area with live flamingos turtles and koi in the hotel is very pretty and interesting

Only been to NY( twice) and stayed at the Wyndham New Yorker on 8th Ave and 34th St.
Its very close to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden too

QforCucumber · 20/11/2019 15:26

We stayed NYNY in Las Vegas and it was fab, rooms and restaurants non smoking but the casino area was smoking. Found the location perfect and as you hardly spend any time in the rooms it was perfect for our needs - spacious room if a bit dated in decor. We got married in Vegas and had more than enough room for 4 of us getting ready in the room beforehand.

Check out Park Lane hotel in NY - and look for offers!

wasthataburp · 20/11/2019 19:54

I've stayed at a few hotels in LV.

Non smoking hotels which I have stayed and really nice are Trump and Waldorf Astoria. They don't have casinos but very close walking distance to other casinos.

Aria is really nice too! But a long walk from street to your hotel room!

I'd recommend trump for value for money and it's just a really nice hotel

Mindgone · 21/11/2019 23:20

Another vote for Aria in LV and Library Hotel in NY, both great locations and a touch of class.

Namaste6 · 21/11/2019 23:24

Have been to NY a few times. Hands down this last hotel was the best - by far - The James Nomad.

noodleaddiction · 22/11/2019 19:42

Caesars palace does have really good deals and is in a good spot. We also saw Elton John there ( I that's your thing) for a very reasonable amount . The Americans were very sedate !,
The holiday inn near the world trade centre museum is in a good spot for Ellis island obvs the world trade centre museum a must if you haven't been and also Wall Street. It's very easy to get around on the subway and walking is easy it's quite reasonable we were put in a really high room and had fantastic views.
Ny is so expensive to visit museums charge approx $25 to enter
I don't know your financial circs but if you save a bit on the hotel you'll have more to enjoy New York- you'll be out the whole time.
Visit the mineletta tavern for a fabulous atmosphere and Schiller liquor bar for a drink
Have fun .

We did New York and Vegas about 10 years ago. We went to New York first for 3 nights then 4 nights in Vegas. I have to say I'm glad we did it that way round as the hotel room in Vegas was much bigger/grander than the New York one. I think because hotels in NY were so much more expensive! We stayed in the Bellagio in Vegas and it was amazing. Just something to bear in mind!

houseofrabbits · 23/11/2019 19:18

Really appreciating all your recommendations. We are going to book flights and hotels tomorrow, although still haven't decided which hotels. Will look at trip advisor reviews and locations for all hotels you've recommended and then make a decision.

The reason we are planning on LV first and then NY is because we are going in February so there is a risk of snow storms in NY. We don't want to get stuck in NY and miss the rest of our holiday in LV.

We stayed at vdara and loved it. It's smoke free, all suites and you can be from your room to the front door in just the wait time for the lift. No casino to walk through.,
You can walk to aria or bellagio via tunnels or monorail,

houseofrabbits · 28/11/2019 19:21

Hi everyone. I really appreciate all your suggestions. We booked our holiday over the weekend. We didn't end up going with anyone's hotel suggestions mainly due to budget constraints, but they gave us great starting places. We decided to book nicer rooms in cheaper hotels, so went with Hurrahs in LV and Park Terrace Hotel near Bryant Park in NY. If money was no object we would have gone with Cosmopolitan in LV and the Conrad in NY.
