La Rochelle alternative?

I originally wanted to go to La Rochelle in July – looking for a French coastal holiday town where I can eat lots of seafood and the children can play on the beach. I think I've left it too late though and there isn't a lot of choice in my price range. Has anyone got any suggestions for somewhere similar in France that could be a bit cheaper?

Look at the south coast of Brittany, Vannes or Carnac.

Beau lieu sur mer? We are big fans of La Rochelle and have enjoyed here too. It has one of the best beaches in Europe and was not too busy!

I live near Vannes. Happy to help if you want any advice on this area!

Dinard is amazing. Not sure if it's cheaper though. Had a fantastic summer holiday here last year.

I'd go farther south than Brittany, to the Vendee -- more likely to have warmer weather. They have some lovely towns on the coast and you can do a day trip to La Rochelle, the aquarium there is amazing.

Arcachon and specifically the campsites at Dune du Pilat. Just down the coast from La Rochelle but significantly prettier and quieter. Excellent restaurant on site and miles upon miles of calm waters and pristine breaches and dunes.

Thank you so much - these are all going down as choices for years to come Smile
