December break

I fancy a week (or a bit longer if budget allows) somewhere in Europe over late Dec, or possibly Christmas.

DP and I went to Lisbon a few years ago at this time and would quite like something similar: cool but sunny weather, interesting city stuff (art, cafes, nice shops, buzz), countryside/sea nearish by.

I'm thinking maybe Granada as I'd love to see the Alhambra, but am very open to ideas.

Split or Dubrovnik

DarlingNikita · 04/11/2019 17:16

Been to Split recently, albeit only for a day from elsewhere in Croatia. Nice, but I wasn't THAT fussed about it, not for that long.

Barcelona

DarlingNikita · 05/11/2019 13:05

Yeah, went to Barcelona a while ago. I did like it, but would like to try somewhere different.

Seville. Great city, lots to do and weather should be pretty good. Granada is lovely and weather similar. Malaga is another great city at anytime of year and likely to be a few degrees warmer being on the coast. Can you tell I like Spain?Grin
Actually I'm off to Portugal on Monday and fretting that the weather forecast is not looking as good as those for the Spanish cities I've mentionedSad

Granada is fab at this time of year. We went up into the mountains for a couple of days walking too which was so relaxing.

DarlingNikita · 07/11/2019 10:56

Yes, I've always fancied Seville too. I think the Alhambra probably wins out at the moment though. Thanks!

I have just purchased these they are lovely and comfortable to wear. I wanted to wear them with skirts and dresses with opaque tights but I am not sure whether they really work or not.

Sorry wrong thread

shinynewapple · 10/11/2019 21:50

Be aware that Granada can be a lot cooler than Malaga at that time of year.

CatUnderTheStairs · 10/11/2019 21:54

Went to talking in December and it was cool but very bright blue and warm in the sun. Great food, but probably only a weekend destination, but you could get ferry to elsewhere.

shinynewapple · 10/11/2019 21:55

We are considering Alicante for a few days between Christmas and New Year. Not been before.

DarlingNikita · 11/11/2019 09:51

I like cool/cold weather, especially if it's sunny. It's nice weather for walking and exploring.

Daddy Grin I've got v similar Josef S boots in a dark red. They're VERY comfortable.

Tallin was what I meant, not talking.

Berlin was also beautiful blue sky.

I've been to Granada in the winter before and sat outside for lunch in gorgeous weather.

DarlingNikita · 11/11/2019 10:17

Yes, I do fancy Tallinn.

The cafes and restaurants were fabulous. There's not a huge amount to do and see. Enough for a weekend certainly though and it's all very twinkly and pretty. A friend combined it with Helsinki, though he didn't seem that struck by Helsinki but though the ferry ride was great.

DarlingNikita · 11/11/2019 13:07

I think DP and I could fill a good few days even in a small city. We're very good at doing not a great deal for long periods Grin We had two weeks in Lisbon a few winters ago and, apart from a day in Cascais and one in Belem, just had lie-ins and long brunches, read on our balcony, mooched about the city etc. Never felt bored. I think some people IRL were a bit Hmm about it and would have 'done' half of Portugal in that time. But we both work really hard and need some serious downtime sometimes, so .

Tallinn is stunning. Christmas markets run through from November to early January. Old town is spectacular. Would also recomend Istanbul. Loads to do and see there.

DarlingNikita · 18/11/2019 12:24

Istanbul Is a good shout.

Florence is lovely. We went between Christmas and New Year and you could eat outside if it's sunny. Also recommend Seville - again beautiful warm weather. Fabulous restaurants and a great ambiance - lots of authentic flamenco as well which is amazing.
