Signing passport

I posted to ask this a few days ago but didn’t actually get any answers. Dd has just received her renewed child passport and can now sign it herself. She has signed it in a rush but in blue ink instead of the state’s black. Does anyone know if this causes an issue?
I’ve rung the passport office they said it doesn’t matter they just state black as better if it needs photocopying etc. But I rang again just for peace of mind and the second person said they don’t think it’ll be a problem but worth checking border control for where you’re travelling????
We have a holiday booked for Spain next year so have emailed your operator and am waiting for a response.
But has anyone signed their passport in the wrong colour and travelled on it? Has it been fine or problematic?

It will be fine.
(But black ink does photocopy better, as you were already told.)

I wouldn't worry at all.

FionaOgre · 30/10/2019 06:51

I wouldn't worry. I didn't sign ours. Totally forgot. At the final passport check the lady just pointed out that I'd forgot to sign it and I did it some time later.

FionaOgre · 30/10/2019 06:51

(Hubby's wasn't signed either.

Mine is new and I noticed on the way back from holiday that I hadn’t signed it, no one noticed or questioned it.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/10/2019 07:00

Just go over it in black? Not really the drama you’re making it out to be is it??

BlouseAndSkirt · 30/10/2019 07:08

It will be fine.

The passport office told you it will be fine.

No one else would have made any more calls after the first one to the passport office!

I really would not go over it in black. That will immediately make it look traced / forged / a mess and draw attention to it.

I have realised that my last one was not signed for the whole 10 years I used it. Had visas, went to some very sensitive countries... no issues at all.

tabulahrasa · 30/10/2019 07:11

I signed mine in the wrong place, I’ve been to America and Spain with it and nobody has said anything...

madasamarchhare · 30/10/2019 07:38

Thanks for that Georgie, but it would be a drama if it raised an issue in a foreign country wouldn’t it.
I am reassured by everyone else’s comments though. Thank you.

DS forgot to sign his new child's passport when he got it renewed. Leaving the UK and flying into France it wasn't noticed. Coming back into the UK, the officer just pointed it out and asked him to do it when he had a chance. Not a big deal.

the rules for signing in black ink will be a Uk one. I’m not sure there is in an international sign passport in black ink ruling that applies everywhere. Each country has its own rules applying to border control and passports. I’m sure your daughter will be absolutely fine.
