DP and I want to get away for a couple of nights in September. We dont care where. We were thinking of just booking up a Travelodge and staying there for 2 nights but i thought i'd check with the Oracle that is MN first.

Any ideas would be FAB!!

TIA!!

Traveldoge do those 15 a night things, check MoneySavingExpert..

tiredemma · 16/08/2007 15:34

how much are you looking to spend?

tiredemma · 16/08/2007 15:34

and how far to travel?

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 15:34

Driving? How far will you travel?

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 15:44

Dont want to spend anymore than about £50 a night really. I know Travelodge do the saver things but when i've checked it's not for weekends or if it is, it's for somewhere like Basildon (no offence to Basildonians). I have looked into their £26+ nights but they do tend to be for only one night so i might have to look into booking Friday and Saturday night separately as it wont let me book for 2 nights if they aren't doing 2 nights at that rate, IYSWIM.

We live in Kent but are willing to travel anything up to 3 hours to reach our destination.

Thanx

Oh yes, driving.

What about Cambridge?. You can get deals at the moment for the actual Holiday Inn there for £30 a night (minimum 2 nights). I have stayed there twice with dh & the dc. You can pay extra to have breakfast, but we just bought stuff in from Tesco the night before. Free access to health suite and swimming pool.

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 15:49

try this company I havn't used them yet but we are booked into one of their hotels next weekend on the 3 nights for 2 offer.

Fimbo · 16/08/2007 15:51

Which one Chippy. We stayed there at Borehamwood.

brandnewhelsy · 16/08/2007 15:52

We stay here www.nitenite.com when we go to Birmingham. No windows!
It's central, either 30 or 40 a night, nice deli for breakfast next door. Birmingham is a great place for entertainment.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 15:55

Fimbo - just tried the Holiday Inn at Cambridge but they're wanting £75 for the room!

Ah but what site did you use?

try this here

Type in Cambridge, then dates you want and it should come up, second in line.

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 16:09

fimbo, somewhere in yorkshire i think - keighley? Apparently not great part of town, but the hotel is meant to be ok (and was certainly cheap!)

Mumpbump · 16/08/2007 16:15

What about this place in Southwold? It looks reasonably cheap and not too twee.

Fimbo · 16/08/2007 16:16

Not been there. The one in Borehamwood (cheap and cheerful) had one of those Beefeater type places attached to it.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 16:19

Thanx for all your replies!

Have gone with Fimbo's tip-off and booked to go to Cambridge. I've been to tons of places in the UK, but never there so thanx for that!

Oo-err. Hope you like it. I should just say its not right in the centre of Cambridge but quite easy to get to by car. Lots of nice eating out places/walks/shops in Cambridge.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 16:22

I'm sure it'll be fine Fimbo. Doesn't matter if it's not in the centre. I'll be 29 weeks pg by then so i wont want to be among loads of hustle and bustle no doubt!

We just want somewhere to put our feet up.

Oh it will be lovely for a nice relaxing break. If you look for signs to Milton when you leave the hotel you will find a Tesco. There is also one of those gigantic ones where you roll your trolley on to escalators at a place called Bar Hill.

RGPargy · 16/08/2007 17:29

Thanx Fimbo. Never seen a Tesco with an trolley escalator! I think it's worth going just for that!!

You may wish to look up the local secrets website, local.secrets.com which gives loads of info on Cambridge, eating out, reviews, places to go & offers. I live 20 mins from Cambridge & use it a lot.

Hope you have a lovely time.

RGPargy · 16/09/2007 13:38

Well, we've just got back from our break away at the Holiday Inn in Cambridge. We had a very relaxing time indeed! The hotel was fabulous and we felt very pampered. we're not used to the minibars actually being stocked, or there being room service available or being able to put bar drinks and food on your hotel bill so you dont have lay out any cash.

Both DP and i splashed out in the health suite. DP had a full body massage and i had a much needed pedicure.

Thanx very much for the recommendation - i think as the hotel was very child friendly too, we will deffo be going there again when LO comes along.

Our only regret is forgetting to bring swimming cossies with us so we could have had a swim. Ah well, nevermind!

So glad you had a nice time RG Pargy. It is a lovely hotel, but sadly they must have wised up to the £30 deal because everytime I try it now, you can't get that rate! The manager did ask my dh how we had managed to get that rate, as it is comparable to staff rates!

Good luck with the birth!
