Will overstaying a visa in one country make it harder to get a visa for a different one?

It strongly depends which countries; but as a general rule, countries with visas want to know that you'll abide by the rules.

Have you already overstayed your visa or are you planning to? If caught it can lead to anything from a large fine to imprisonment or instant eviction from the country. Most countries which require a visa will run checks to make sure you have no convictions, including visa-related convictions. Not sure why anyone would contemplate this.

There’s no easy answer to that. It would depend on where you overstayed and where you are applying again. And also how long the overstay was and whether (apart from the overstay) you beached any conditions of the visa (e.g working on a tourist visa, etc). I live in the USA and an overstay here f any length, even an hour, on the VWP would exclude you from the VWP for life. An overstay of 6 months gets you a three-year ban, an overstay of 12 months gets you a 10-year ban and a false claim of being a US citizen (in order to get a job, for example) is a lifetime ban. And all information here is shared with Canada and vice versa.
