After reading the other thread about the good playground at Bowood House I was wondering can we have a thread with recommendations for really good adventure playground type places?

I would like to receommend Belton House near Grantham (National Trust) and Monkey World in Dorset as 2 of the best I've seen.

Any more?

It'd be really great if you could add some of these to BabyChange.com !

I thought the Diana playground was rubbish tbh. Too many concrete areas for kids to fall over on. Full of nannies/aupairs and bugaboos too. Couldn't move for them. Its so hyped up, I thought it was going to be brilliant - we left after about 15 minutes. No better than your average playgroup imo.

The playground in the centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon is pretty good. Caters for each age group with separate areas although all contained in the one place.

Thetford Forest near Brandon in Suffolk is quite good too.

Camperdown Park Dundee very good, lots of different things for variety of age groups, all built around sand.

Castle Green Park, Broughty Ferry, Dundee another recommendation.

Fimbo - I do sort of agree with you re Diana playground - we live a few minutes' walk away and don't use it that much (children now 6 and 8) any more. It was much more use as/for toddlers - the little wooden cabins and boats are sweet and got tons of use, and the big sand areas are a nice novelty for city-bound little ones. But for the age mine are now (ie, "adventure" playground age) they need wing-spreading room, and you're right, it's usually so mobbed that you can hardly get round.

Weekdays and early mornings can still be nice - but a very early morning in Ravenscourt Park (or probably any of the Nat'l Trust places being listed here) is much nicer.
