Portugal October?

Has anyone been to Portugal in October? School holidays for us are from Friday 11th and just not sure how the weather holds up? We've been 24 Sep - 1 Oct years ago and it was great but there seems to be a suggestion that October is cold - do those 2 weeks make a big difference?

Trying to avoid Canaries as the flight times from our local airport are shit. I can't face a late evening flight with 5 year old and 1 year old 🙈

It’s a risk, although the beginning of October should be ok, it’s not guaranteed, and by the end of the month it’s usually cooler and showery

I’ve lived in the algarve for 16 years

Can be hit and miss. We usually go end of sept and it’s very warm, but on the occasions we’ve been in October it’s tended to be cooler and a higher chance of rain. Basically you’re not guaranteed sun and warmth.

Thanks guys, seems like the week or 2 could make a big difference. To be fair we didn't get amazing weather last year in lanzarote so no guarantees anywhere.

Is there anywhere else you'd suggest that I've just not thought about?

Madeira's still warm in October. Mainland Portugal can be quite cool/rainy in October in my experience

It will be warm in the sun on the Algarve in October, but you may get showers. I like October because it’s cooler in the evenings but the days are usually still really nice.
Last year we didn’t take our sail shade down until they beginning of November because our patio would have been baking without it.
Stick to the coast though, and possibly central or eastern Algarve, as the west is windier. In winter we can often see cumulous clouds clinging to the hills in the distance while we enjoy the sunshine on the coast.
Google weather on the Algarve and you will see average temperature and precipitation etc by month.

We are off there for a month in Nov. Not expecting great weather but better than the UK. Have picked somewhere with heating and comfy furnishings!
Look on timeanddate.com for actual weather experienced last Octobr or anytime you like.
