New York and .....? Summer 2020

Thinking of 4-5 nights NYC and 10 nights somewhere possibly beach eg Caribbean for next August.

Any recommendations appreciated - including the best way to book flights and hotels. Travelling with DH and two teens. All keen snorkellers, not millionaires but don't want to stay in a dump.

Maybe a lesser known Caribbean island? Not sure about Jamaica or Barbados.

Antigua is beautiful. I would like to try Anguilla. We always book direct - flights and hotel - worth comparing if you get the choice. We flew JetBlue from Fort Myers to NYC last time - they are very good and have a good network. Liat for the Caribbean is amusing to say the least!

Thank you MilkTray - assume it's cheaper to do a return to NYC and then a return from NYC to the twin centre place?

Is it best to just properly stop over in NYC one way? ie get connecting flights on way home if had say 4 nights there in the way out?

Yes, I think better to book your return flight to UK and then book direct with any internal carriers.

Have you been to NYC before? If not, and you want to see the sights, I would suggest at least 3 nights maybe on the way out? I think I would do the return from NYC as it is a shorter flight than the Caribbean so less jet lag!

What about Cuba before it changes too much?

AlpenCrazy · 11/09/2019 17:03

DH and I have been to NYC before but the teens haven't. Thinking maybe the way back might be better as you say because of jet lag and we will be well rested so can perhaps appreciate it more.

Cuba is an interesting call. We've been to Mexico so wanted something a bit different to that. Wondering about coastal US - not keen on Orlando but maybe another part of Florida or elsewhere?

I don't like the whole Orlando/Disney thing either. We have spent time in Florida on a few occasions. Miami is interesting to see, but very hectic and touristy. Naples is lovely, the Atlantic Coast is beautiful - we stayed at Vero Beach which was fab - also Sanibel and Captiva Island are worth seeing. The day we spent at Cape Kennedy was the best and most interesting thing I have ever done! Fascinating! We also drove down to the Keys last time - again, very interesting. I would not go there again, but so glad we have seen it. The roads and particularly the bridges over the water are a triumph of engineering.

You’ll struggle to get from the US to Cuba. With a few exceptions, Americans are banned from traveling to Cuba so there are only a handful of flights each way.

It would make sense to look at the US Virgin Islands (St Thomas, for example) and do a multi-stop ticket on a carrier like AA out of the UK. UK - NYC - STT - UK (via the US again). That way you have it all on one ticket and there is no charge for your gateway stop.

Ah yes very good point re USA/Cuba!

I'd recommend Aruba, Turks and Caicos, or the Dominican Republic. All three have fantastic beaches and you can fly direct from New York. Smile

There are a couple of good companies that offfer similar stuff and you can extend the nights to make it tailor made
Viva Holidays and Escape Worldwide are two
that I have used previously
