Regret booking Premium Economy- shall I cancel?

Just booked a Premium Economy flight to Singapore with BA. It was £500 more than the normal Economy fare. BA give you 24 hours to change your mind

Now the more I am thinking about it , £500 is a hell of a lot of money. I had decided it was a treat for me, to me. But now I'm thinking what I could do with that. I am expecting about £200 back in return from the airline due to a best price policy so it's £900. But still.....

Keep it!

Not only will you have considerably more legroom, but if they start upgrading they go on frequent flyer then cabin.

Jollymollyx · 05/09/2019 18:37

I’ve flown premium, and it does make a difference to economy, I would keep it, I’ve done Singapore on economy and it is not easy!!

ThisIsAllaMooPoint · 05/09/2019 18:37

Keep it! I had a chance to upgrade once but didn’t as like you was concerned about the money. I soooo regretted it. My flight was just over 10 hours and that day economy felt even more uncomfortable and horrible as I kept thinking about what I could have had

ihatethecold · 05/09/2019 19:31

Those of you saying economy with Singapore airlines was grim are making me worry. Confused
It’s more expensive than BA by quite a bit. Is it not any better?

Horehound · 05/09/2019 19:48

Op, why can't you just make a decision and stick by it? Fuck the bf. He prioritised other things which matter to him. You should prioritise things which matter to you.

spinyffud · 05/09/2019 19:50

Definitely keep PE if it isn’t going to have a significant impact on you financially!

I spend my life obsessed with collecting Avios to avoid economy longhaul !

Yesitwasmethistime · 05/09/2019 20:36

ihatethecold worry I didn’t think Singapore airlines was any better than BA. It may be different if you can get upstairs economy seats as they come in twos but being squished on a 3-4-3 (in the middle of the 3) scheme was not fun at all.

They also ran out of food choices by the time they got to us so it was fish or fish. They were apologetic but that didn’t help if you don’t like fish like me.

Have you already booked?

Huntlybyelection · 05/09/2019 20:37

I flew economy to Singapore (and to Sydney. Then return) and it was fine. We had a bit more legroom by being at the bulkhead so we could use the plug in for thing. We got beer and wine and the in-flight meals. It was Fine!

Namaste6 · 05/09/2019 22:50

Keep PE. Your legs will thank you for it at the other end. Safe flight.

blueshoes · 05/09/2019 23:36

PE is not much better than E. Business is definitely better but probably cost a lot more too. I personally won't upgrade to PE on my own expense but then again, I don't need to legroom.

ihatethecold · 06/09/2019 11:52

@Yesitwasmethistime
No I haven’t booked yet.
I’m just needing to get 4000 more virgin points to book my SA flight.

I’m also hoping that when I go to book that the dates I want I can use my points.
I’ve no way of knowing until I try to book 😫

Yesitwasmethistime · 06/09/2019 11:56

I’d happily book SA on points, just wouldn’t pay extra over BA because of who the airline is.

Happy saving! (I am an avid avois collector!)

ihatethecold · 06/09/2019 14:53

Really? SA rank so much higher than BA. Is it really no different?

BA have such a bad reputation now.

sneta · 06/09/2019 19:18

I actually think BA get more of a bad rep than they deserve, I've flown with SA econ and genuinely found it pretty average

rookiemere · 06/09/2019 21:15

Did you keep it OP?
From what I've seen PE in BA wasn't hugely bette than normal economy but I guess if it gives you a shout at Business class it's maybe worth it.

nononever · 06/09/2019 21:32

In my personal experience there is absolutely no comparison between BA and Singapore Airlines. Singapore wins hands down every single time.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 07/09/2019 09:00

We recently booked with BA LHR BKK return. There were 3 of us. Booked exit row. Seats inbound and outbound which cost £475 return for all 3 of us. Fab flight, very comfy. I used my hand luggage as a foot rest so I had my legs up for all but landing and take off both ways. We had loads more room than premium economy and I slept 6 hours plus on the night flight. A fraction of the cost of premium and more space. If you can get a bulk head or exit row seat in economy I would swap to that.

Yesitwasmethistime · 07/09/2019 18:10

nononever it will always be personal experience and opinion and all of our experiences will only ever be a tiny fraction of the flights taken so will vary massively.
In my personal experience and opinion there was not a lot of difference between BA and SA economy.

I have only done long haul premium economy in BA and Air France and preferred BA. Air France does duo seats on some long haul in economy, we found those a lot better value.

Honeyroar · 07/09/2019 18:59

Keep it if you can, they're always busy night flights and it will be that bit more peaceful and comfortable in traveller plus.

nononever · 07/09/2019 19:01

I totally agree with you. We have flown longhaul with both BA and Singapore a lot (ditched BA 6 years ago due to repeated dreadful service) and our experience with Singapore has always been really good. Out of all the major airlines we've flown with it's still our favourite.

Once we missed our connecting flight in Singapore due to bad weather and the airline went out of their way to get us home, put us up in a hotel overnight, gave us vouchers for food and drink and upgraded us to business for the last leg of our journey.

On the other hand we once missed a BA connecting flight which was totally down to them which they admitted. They refused to put us on the next flight (which had plenty of seats) unless we paid an outrageous premium, wouldn't let us use Avios for it either. We cut our losses and booked with a different airline for a decent price. That was the final nail for us with BA.

L0bstersLass · 14/09/2019 12:54

For that length of flight it's a bargain. Especially for an overnight flight and even more so if you're tall.

Aridane · 14/09/2019 13:01

I would cancel and instead blow the money on a night at Raffles hotel or an outrageously expensive handbag or decadent spa treatments- whatever floats your boat - but not BA’s grubby premium economy
