Just wondering if it's worth doing

(flying Ryanair, would be checking into hold)

Has anyone found it really messed up luggage allowance -- penalty charges?

we've done this and it was additional to usual luggage allowance but wasnt ryanair. Ring and ask them your best bet.

What stage seat is it...if baby...do up straps and tie all long straps and put it inside a large clear bag to stop it getting dirty or snagged on machinery.

Hi, I was wondering this same thing as I'm flying next month and need a car seat at the other end. Emailed easyjet and was told
"I am happy to confirm that pushchairs, prams, car seats and travel cots do not form part of your baggage allowance and therefore are carried for free. However, we do not offer a separate baggage allowance for infants.

Pushchairs, buggies, car seats and travel cots can be taken right up to the aircraft, where they will be taken by cabin crew and stored in the hold. However, if it would be easier for you, you can check it in with your baggage at check-in. Full sized, non-collapsible prams cannot be accepted for travel."

I am planning to print out the response and take it with me just in case.. maybe just do the same with Ryanair??

Do make sure you leave a car seat in your car too, in case your car seat doesn't come back on the same flight as you; it happens all the time, esp. at Luton!! That way you are not stranded at the airport waiting for a car seat so you can go home...

Last couple of trips we've checked in two car seats with no problem (BA though). We put each one inside a black bin liner, tied at the top, and stick a label with name, address etc at the bottom of the seats.

Spockle's point has hit home rather. Knowing our luck (and Ryanair), this would definitely happen... All good advice, thanks for helping us make up our mind.

My Eye we are flying with Ryanair next week. Please let me know if you get an answer to this as I've been wondering myself!

From what i can find out it would be additional to personal baggage and have to be paid for.

I don't think Ryanair's policy on child car seats is the same as Easyjet's. We have brought ours on Ryanair flights a number of times, most recently last month. It always had to be checked into the hold and paid for as a separate piece of luggage. The Ryanair website says that they will carry pushchairs/buggys free of charge but no mention of carseats unfortunately.

sonic - did they count the weight in your baggage allowance do you remember?

MyEye · 09/08/2007 15:24

HITC, I rang them, girl said you have to pay if the c/s takes you over your luggage allowance, and the rate is something like 5 euros for every extra kilo.
I wish they'd put this info clearly on their website.
We aren't going to bother.

We've flown with a size 0 rearfacing car seat with no problems checking in. However, it did get broken on one flight (the polystyrene inside lining to the "wings" were broken - was a Maxi Cosi Cabrio, so supposedly good quality) -wasn't immediately obvious so do take cover off and check when you get back, and maybe try and wrap in a protective layer if poss?
