I thought this might be a good time to ask about ideas for holidays .
I have £5k budget and 3 kids 17,17 and 10 .
We need to go in the school holidays .
I’ve been looking and I’m struggling to find anything on budget which seems ridiculous.

I think it’s having the older 2 so we effectively have to book 2 rooms ( we would kill each other sharing a room ! Anyway )

The last few years we have spent £££ and headed to the States but now we really have to stop !

We are not beachy people . Youngest gets bored quickly and likes to be active but is very flexible about what he does ( except shopping )
One teen isn’t keen on people , being seen or generally interacting with the world , WiFi is a big bonus !
Other teen likes to be active doing interesting things but not sporty and dislikes swimming !

Dh wants warm sunshine

I don’t care so long as I’m out of the house and everyone is not whinging at me as if it’s all my fault !!!

I’ve tried Tui and other travel agents and they were no good .
I’ve looked at doing it myself and booking flights and villas but they are quite pricey and I’m not sure on location

Where should I look next ?

would something like this work for you in Paphos, Cyprus? you are near the mall and harbour (where a lot of the restaurants are located, and also where things like boat tours and segway tours begin from), so you could eat out for lunch/dinner and get a lidl delivery so you can eat breakfast in the apartment?

Have a look at Simply Morzine in the French Alps but should be hot enough in the summer and have separate rooms for the DCs.

Dalyan, Turkey.
Get a three or 4 bed villa with private pool, Easyjet flights are out next week (I think) and that will come in well under your budget..
Not a beach but on a river, loads of restaurants, bars and day trips and just a really chilled, beautiful place.

We are looking at Thailand and Malaysian Borneo (Sandakan, Sepilok and Kinabatagan River - fly into Sandakan) and very cheap accommodation options there especially if you don't mind basic. WIFI can be a challenge though in Borneo and flights are more pricey to there.

Thailand might well be possible though watch weather and may need an internal flight. River Kwai. Chiang Mai, Koh Samui are nice. Our flights were £2k for 4 to Bangkok direct. Flights to Borneo extra £1k.

Airbnb can cut costs a lot and get more space though more work.

I can see your dilemma OP! So you don't want a group adventure type holiday, you don't want a water sports holiday, you've been to the USA before and say it's too expensive, which is understandable. I think I'd look at cheaper destinations like Turkey, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, etc, and see if you can find a property with at least 3 bedrooms where you can all have a bit of space, but where there are things to do nearby. The villas on or near beaches seem to be more expensive than those away from the coast, so if you're not beach people that's good. When you say your active DS doesn't like sports, what does he like?

Re: cheaper accommodation, look at Airbnb (we've done this several times now and never had an issue - just book and communicate via their website - do not enter into any other communications), HomeAway, VRBO, Owners Direct and Booking.com - all of which have properties for rent that are much cheaper than going through James Villas, or whatever, which are ££££.
