Best city to travel on Eurostar with 11 year old

We would like to go on a 3/ 4 day trip over the autumn half term on the Eurostar with our 11 year and 4 year old. We went to Paris in the Spring half term which was really good. Partner keeps saying Bruge but I’m not sure. Can anyone recommend anywhere?

I think you’d struggle to fill 3/4 days in Bruges, especially with children. What about the Netherlands? Can go to either Amsterdam or Rotterdam and internal trains are reasonably priced. Or Brussels with a day in Bruges (I haven’t been to Brussels but there looks to be quite a bit to do with children.)

Thanks for response WrongKindOfFace. I think Amsterdam would be perfect.

I was also going to say Amsterdam. DH just took both DDs there for a couple of days - it's fantastic for kids

Bruges is lovely but not for more than 2 days.

I did Amsterdam with DD (then 11) this May half term for 4 days. We had a lovely time and there is lots to do, I think we could easily filled several more days.

Lots of the museums have English explanations and the audio guides are good. Nearly everyone we encountered spoke good English, a surpise for me as I remember the Netherlands more German focused during my childhood.

Just one warning, if you take the Eurostar back to the UK you need to change in Brussels. Amsterdam doesn't have the set up for passport controls. We took the train out and flew back from Shiphol to Gatwick.

Thanks HeyMicky and reluctantbrit. Amsterdam it is!

I looked into Bruges, which is beautiful, on Eurostar . As I understand it though, Eurostar doesn’t offer a direct service. You have to change at Brussels then it’s another 1 1/2 hours on a different line. Bit much for a day trip?
