We are planning to book 2 weeks in Villefrance and although we have no doubts its the right place for us I was just wondering if anyone else had been and whether they knew of any children's activities in that area. We will have a 3 and 5 year old who are generally happy to go touring around looking at museums etc but would like to know of children's play parks etc.

it is gorgeous, but not a whole lot to do i wd think ..lucky you.. we only spent an afternoon there but it looks a perfect place to be

Villefranche is beautiful but I think you are a bit stuffed for kids stuff. It is also v expensive to just 'be'.

babyblue2 · 07/08/2007 20:15

I thought that may be the case, we're hiring a car for the two weeks so we'll be able to have a good scout around all the surrounding areas etc. I'm sure there'll be an odd swing tucked in somewhere.

There is a Marineland in Antibes, which is fun. Where you are staying, is there a pool? As long as there is, they won't want much else ...

babyblue2 · 07/08/2007 20:31

No there's no pool but they prefer the beach. We've just spent 2 weeks in portugal and they spent all of 30 mins in the pool. I'll look up Marineland, thanks.

FWIW Villefrance beach, part of it is stoney, take some rubber shoes for the children to go into the sea or sit on a small part which is sandy and very busy.

You can take the costal train to Monaco, Monte Carlo or travel the other way to Nice.

Enjoy

Ah I was wondering about the beach, will have to make sure we get the sandy bit or go on a bit of a sandy beach hunt.

We have just come back (yesterday) from two week's inland from Frejus. On the coastal road from Nice towards Cannes, etc. there are loads of little bays with sandy beaches.

Most of the coastal towns have roundabouts and play parks for the odd 20 minutes sit downa nd time out. And 5 year old DD enjoyed riding the "petite train" they have in most areas.

Lots of places to visit by car. We visited: Cannes, St Tropez, Nice, Monaco, Aix en Provence, St Maxime, Frejus, Ste Raphael, Vence, Grasse, San Remo (Italy) and other smaller little places.

Beautiful area.

babyblue2 - There is a great children's park called Castel des deux Rois five minutes by car from wherever you will be in Villefranche. A merry-go-round, great little children't activity park, fountain, lots of greenery for picnics and even ball games.

Also, check out the Family First website which talks about everything to be done and places to go to when you are in the French Riviera with your children.

Sorry, i know this thread is 2 years old but I'm thinking of going to Villefranche in July.

Is it easy to manage without a car?
And we were thinking of taking the train out to Italy while we were there, where would be the best place to visit?
