October half-term advice please- Cyprus?Turkey? Canaries?

We'd like to go away during half-term, which for us is mid-October this year. Looking for somewhere that's good for kids (age 5 and 7), nice beach and decent weather. We fancy Turkey as my husband has never been (and it seems there are some of the best deals there), or Cyprus...but concerned that weather might not be as good there in mid-October, and that the Canary Islands might be safer bet? Any thoughts much appreciated!

Turkey should be fine mid October, you will get the best chance of good weather in the Antalya region.

Watching with interest , what do ppl think of Portugal for a half term break ?

Prizepudding · 30/08/2019 11:38

I know people who go every October to Cyprus and on the whole the weather is good, it can be up to 26-28 but with the odd day of rain. I wouldn’t say the canaries are a safer bet, it can be just as mixed as anywhere else.

We have been going to a resort near Malaga for the last couple of years mid October and have always had great weather but at least one day of rain, the weather is actually quite similar to that in the canaries but the bonus is a shorter flight and lots of things to do if the weather is not so good. My brother was in Portugal at the same time and the weather wasn’t as good as ours.

I came on here to post the exact same thing! Where is hot in October? All the holiday websites say they are hot (yeah right!). They are just trying to sell holidays.

I would love to know if Cyprus or Turkey are hot in late October.

kittyhello · 31/08/2019 21:08

Whichever you decide, make sure your pool is heated. Turkey can be warm but the pools will have cooled down, same with the other destinations.

I've been to Spain in November and lay on the beach. Ditto Mallorca. And canaries and Morocco and Rhodes so I reckon turkey and Cyprus would be fine. No guarantees but probably fine

MrsTumbletap · 01/09/2019 17:53

Or what about Greece?

peridito · 02/09/2019 09:28

Whereabouts in Greece ?

justaweeone · 03/09/2019 06:31

We've had decent weather in Crete in Oct
Think it's one of the furthest south islands

SmartyPants0 · 03/09/2019 06:49

We've been to Cyprus and Rhodes for October half term break and the weather in both countries has been hot enough to sunbathe, in fact I found it a really pleasant heat. Do be aware though that it is the last week of the season for a lot of places and many resorts are closing down for the winter. We've had reps on our flight home before

Sooverthemill · 03/09/2019 09:01

Elounda in Crete is good

NotWavingButMNing · 03/09/2019 14:24

Holiday companies grossly exaggerate the temperatures for October half term. It's nearly November and very much Autumn /Winter in most of the Med, let alone Portugal which is the Atlantic.
I wouldn't go to Turkey myself but weather wise it should be warm. Cyprus too but make sure you have a heated pool. Just don't expect intense summer heat.
The Canaries are the safest bet.

I've been to Paphos in Cyprus twice in Oct half term (last week for us). The first time we went the weather was beautiful - 28 degrees and sunny every day. The second time we went it was cooler (low 20s) and we had a day or two of rain. Some friends of ours go to an AI resort near Ayia Napa (the east end of Cyprus) and they pretty much swear by the weather in Oct there.

Ginfordinner · 11/09/2019 08:04

I agree with NotWavingButMNing about exaggerated temperatures. It can also rain a lot in the Med at that time of year. We have stayed in Corfu at the end of September a couple of times. The first time we had temperatures in the mid 20s. The second time we had a lot of rain and much cooler temperatures.

And don't forget that daylight hours are shorter than in the Canaries. When we went to Rome one October half term it was getting dark at about 5 - 5.30pm.

We went to Tenerife in late October a couple of years ago.
There were a couple of sharp showers (no more than a hour ir so) but otherwise really warm, sunbathing weather , going to the water park etc.

Though we were across the road from a shopping Mall that had full on Christmas decorations up ... Xmas Grin Yay
