Texas - multi-city trip

Looking to book a trip for next September when I finish my Masters degree...I've always wanted to go to Texas and visit Austin (number one city on my list), Houston (my partner is very keen to go to the space centre) and possibly Dallas/San Antonio. Has anyone done something similar? Looking for advice regarding best possible route/whether there are any other places you would recommend, and also any advice regarding who to book through. We would consider either using public transport to get between cities, or potentially driving, if I can get my confidence up enough in the next year. Thank you!

We did a very similar trip in Sept last year.

Space centre was fascinating (do the full tour, expensive but worth it) however Houston itself didn’t really do it for me. Maybe fly into Houston, do the space centre then head out.

San Antonio was smaller than I thought it would be but the Mission & the history was interesting. They’ve also redeveloped the river front there which is beautiful but, man, it was hot!

From there we did a few days in hill country for wineries & a bit of country chill out - the German heritage around there was surprisingl.

Austin was awesome. Cool city, v historic downtown, great burgers & beer.

Dallas Fort Worth was actually a ton more interesting than I thought it would be, JFK book repository museum, Baseball, Dallas Cowboys stadium tour, Southfork, cattle drive in FW etc.

We hired a car, self drive and flew out of DFW at the end. Not sure how easy it would be to do on public transport.

Austin is amazing

San Antonio has a fascinating history and very different vibe, some lovely countryside between Austin and SA.

Dallas itself was quite dull I thought but Fort Worth made the trip worth it.

Houston was the least fun and I wouldn't go back to the city itself, we did the space center though and that was very good. Galveston was a fun jaunt. Tip: Singapore Airlines fly relatively cheaply to Houston from Manchester, we only paid abut £350 each and they're a lovely airline.

I'd recommend driving, especially if you're going September when it's still very hot.

Thank you so much everyone! Just the sort of information I was looking for. I've heard such good things about Austin for years, so keen to go there. I wasn't that bothered about Dallas, but my partner wants to go and see the Dallas Cowboys so looks like we will do that. Thank you for the airline tip too, we are in Scotland but getting to Manchester is obviously reasonably doable/worth it for cheaper flights. Flights in general don't seem too bad, around £300-£600 or so, is that similar to what others have paid? I was expecting a lot more!

Flights to the US are pretty cheap at the moment, I certainly wouldn't pay more than £500pp absolute max for economy and I'm sure you'd find cheaper than that. We've just paid £500pp Virgin to Florida May half term.
