Bangkok city break?

I've got a week off in September and I'm wondering if Bangkok would be good for a city break?

I know it's rainy season which doesn't bother me but is a week too long? Or too far for a week?

Any other suggestions that aren't Europe?

Thanks

You could fly into Istanbul and back from the beach in Antalya, Izmir (Cesme or Kussdasi) , Bodrum or Dalaman(Fethiye,Kalkan or Kas). Turkey is great value for money.
Much as I love Thailand I think you need at least two weeks. If you want a beach in Thailand you could try Koh Samet or Koh Chang.

Japan? If the OP cannot afford South Africa, how is Japan affordable? That’s a long flight too.

I think a week in Istanbul is too long. DD went in April and said it was heaving and lots of scaffolding everywhere. She was disappointed. If you have 10 days, the Córdoba, Seville, Granada trip is ideal. Short cheapish flights so you can have better hotels. I would still add in money and go to SA.
