What do Mumsnetters do about milk for their one year olds in a hotel??

We are taking our first ever non-self catering holiday this summer. My daughter drinks cows milk and still has a significant amount per day/night. Can I ask the hotel to provide this or do I need to buy some there? We're going to Mexico - genuinely have no idea where the nearest supermarket will be!
THANK YOU!

We've just been on hold. We took powdered formula to tide us over in case of struggling to get cow's milk. I'd imagine the hotel will have some and there are bound to be grocery shops in the resort.

on hols not hold

Email the hotel to ask.

I've always just asked the hotel for some in a bottle or sippy cup at the bar and theyve always given it to me for both my cows milk drinking child and more recently for my non dairy milk drinker. Hotels are generally are ok giving milk to babies and children IME. Abroad most bars always seem to happily give kids free milk where's in the UK every cafe will charge for a cup. I'm sure if you're staying in a resort area there will he local shops and you can always buy some and keep it in the fridge in your room if there is one if the hotel aren't forthcoming. If there us nowhere to store milk I can't see how they can object though.

Get ice from the machine and buy from the shop, take 500ml if uht in your bag for the first night

We were in Jamaica when ds was 1 and he would drink about a pint of milk every night before bed. We asked for glasses of milk but after a couple of days they just started giving us the cartons of it. It’ll depend where you’re staying obviously but where we were there was only UHT. Ds did get used to it but was pretty unimpressed to start with. It also doesn’t keep well, even in the fridge once opened it would be lumpy within 6 hours.

At that age would use those bottles of preprepared formula - I think mine thought they were a treat compared to cows milk as they’re much sweeter.

I took bottles down to breakfast and used milk for cereal, then kept it in the room fridge

Mine was fine with normal powdered milk, made up by shaking it with cold water in a bottle. See if yours will accept this, its an easy and cheap solution if they will. Bear in mind that you often can't drink tap water in Mexico, so you might need to buy bottled (this may be out of date I was last there a very long time ago!)

I would be very surprised if you had no fridge in your room and no local shop you could buy milk from. I'd check out the hotel on trip advisor, there is a question and answer section that previous holiday makers can answer and you should be able to see from reviews tips about shops etc. If for some reason there is no fridge in room I would pack a tin of formula. Or you can order it to most airport Boots and take it on the plane as hand luggage. All hotels will be able to lend or hire you a kettle if they aren't automatically provided.

Ps, nesquik (just half a teaspoon rather than the amount they suggest) is a good solution for uht or powdered milk (can you still buy marvel milk???)
