Hi
My DD (6) is fully vegetarian (no fish but dairy food ok) does anyone know what it'll be like for her in Portugal? Any hints and tips? Thanks

It depends where you're going. Touristy areas are pretty good now, but it's worth checking that things like pasta dishes are vegetarian and specify no meat or fish, as they sometimes sneak a bit of ham or chicken in even though it sounds veggie on the menu.

Not great & limited & pretty bland options has been my experience. Sorry! Could have just been we made some duff restaurant choices but on the plus side there is a broader number of options than when I went as a teenager. And the custard tart thingies are wonderful!

DD 13 is an extremely fussy non meat eater. She has margarita pizza (she doesn’t like any other vegetarian option), pasta, most places will accommodate her with egg and chips, vegetables and chips or vegetables and potatoes even though they aren’t on the menu.

I'm here in Portugal now and am a veggie - loads of choice!!

Oh thanks that's great. I guess worse case scenario is she eats chips for two weeks😂. That's what we did when we were in Spain 30 years ago- omelette and chips!

My experience was that the vegetarian options were awful - and yes pretty much omelet and chips. Plus, vegetarians were considered inconvenient. As much as I loved Portugal it wasn't because of the food. I was dreading Spain but actually ended up doing really well, especially in places where Tapas featured.

At the end of the day, it’s not going to kill her to eat beige food for 2 weeks. The youngest DDs holiday diet is usually cake from the breakfast buffets then onto bread, chips, margarita pizza and ice creams the rest of the day!

It sounds like her ideal place-she'll love beige food all day long
