Hi
My DD (6) is fully vegetarian (no fish but dairy food ok) does anyone know what it'll be like for her in Portugal? Any hints and tips? Thanks

Same as everywhere else. My do is vegi and has never had a problem finding food anywhere.

Easy I’d imagine.

Download the Happy Cow app which will tell you veggie/vegan places anywhere you want to go.

@fuzzyduck1 it’s really not the same everywhere else, a lot of Europe is actually a nightmare.

@elvislives2012 where abouts in Portugal? I go to Lisbon a fair bit, it’s very very meaty/fishy. I usually eat tapas as there are always a few things I can eat on the menu.

FogCutter · 13/08/2019 22:45

I really struggled in Portugal, menus seem to be very meat and fish heavy.

Portugal has some of the finest vegetarian food in Europe (outside the UK) but you will need to go where the local Afro-Indian community is. Lisbon shouldn’t be a problem.

It's over 10 years ago since I went to Portugal and found trying to get vegetarian food harder than a lot of other countries in Europe. There were enough pizza and pasta places. I did have omelette one night whilst DP ate a veritable feast. We did have Indian food one night.

fuzzyduck1 · 14/08/2019 07:17

@poster Doyouavocado well your experience must have been very different to ours then. Dp is very fussy veggie won’t eat pasta or rice so rules out a lot of food straight away.

Agree a lot of Europe is meat fish based food but don’t worry post brexit that won’t be a problem as we won’t be able to afford to go there

Went for a week last year, no problem at all
Pizza, Indian, Thai, Chinese etc
Some restaurants will cook you something, even if it's not on the menu, if you ask !
There are super markets too
It's not in the middle of nowhere

We’re veggie & it’s a nightmare! We thankful eat fish which is often very well catered for. But everything is very meat focussed! We self catered a lot.
