Cottage rentals in Canada for gathering of the clan?

We would like to organise a holiday for next summer, where all of the extended family can stay together. There will be people coming from the UK and the USA (west coast) and various places in between. Lots of children (ages 0 - teenage), some grandparents, great aunts etc.

We'd like to find somewhere where we can rent self-catering accommodation, I guess where we can get several cottages/cabins close to each other so we can see each other but have some privacy too. Ideally with the possibility of eating together.

We'd like somewhere with lots of outdoor activities for the children. Maybe somewhere on the east coast of Canada.

Any ideas?

Those cabins look gorgeous. Have you been?

The Muskoka lake area is cottage country in Ontario - about 2 hours from Toronto airport. You should be able to do your reunion there quite easily.

Many years ago, we stayed at a place called Shamrock Lodge (they do have a website), and it was great. Very good value, children's programmes, full board, very relaxed.

Google should be able to help you find a place for family reunions. They are very popular in North America. We have just come back from one - about 80 of us on Cape Cod. All of FIL's offspring (ie us and DH's siblings) were in one hotel, and we were able to barbecue etc.

After our reunion, we went up to Vermont to recover, and the resort we were at has a reunion service. They will organise anything you want them to, such as a big dinner or a sporting activity. The condominiums are all self-catering, but there are restaurants on site. A lot of families were there in groups of two or three, so they just organised their own stuff, rather than having the resort do it for them. Smugglers' Notch

By east coast, you mean NB, NS, PEI etc? Or do you mean Montreal/Toronto?

NCQ - I guess the main selling point for getting everyone together is that it is accessible for all. We're coming from NW England, Washington DC, California, Houston and Toronto! So long as NB, NS and PEI are reasonably accessible from all those places they'd be fine.

We settled on North America becuase we are outnumbered by the Americans and Canadians, and east coast as opposed to west so that the Brits can get there easily.

Hmmm, I think something near Toronto may be easiest, really. Flights there from all over the place, etc etc.

What sort of budget? Are you looking for fancy, or what?

I've been happy with this place, and it does meet your criteria I think.
