Anyone done it? Is there a big party? How's the weather?

Sorry but what or where is wdw

DownRightAmazing · 04/08/2019 19:35

Oh sorry. Walt Disney World (Florida).

I've been perusing various fan websites and thought it was a well known acronym 😀

Not done it, it would be too crowded for me. Weather is unpredictable in the winter. Get over to www.thedibb.co.uk for expert advice.

Grin have you got children. I'd prefer New York.

DownRightAmazing · 04/08/2019 19:39

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Yes two kids, 7 and 4 by then.

It's pleasant rather than warm (think light cardigan weather aka typical British summer). Check their website for the event programme

Be warned that Magic Kingdom at least tends to hit capacity around Christmas and New Years, meaning even if you do get there early and get in, the park literally shuts the gates because it’s too full and it can be near impossible to even move on Main Street!
The other parks are emptier but still incredibly busy, and the New Years fireworks are at Magic Kingdom I think, so you’d have to get there early and stay there.
You can probably watch the fireworks from some of the hotels (like the Contemporary) but would have to find the right time and place. It might be worth phoning the reservation line at the Walt Disney Travel company and seeing if they have any recommendations, I’ve found them super helpful before.

We went in early December 2017, we bought jackets and hats as it was too chilly for hoodies. I have been to WDW many times, I was in the Magic Kingdom once when it was closed, it was really impossible to move on MAin Street. I wouldn’t think of going at New Year especially with young children.

Ok, that doesn't sound like fun and I think my youngest would hate it if it was that crowded.

Thanks all - ''twas just an idle thought at this stage.

I’m doing for NYE, I’ll see you there OP Grin

We went to florida for 3 weeks. we spent the first week on Florida keys and had NYE there. then went on to WDW for the second two weeks. it worked really well and NYE on the keys was fantastic and not completely mobbed. we sat by the shore and watched fireworks.

We went at Xmas and the 2nd week was cold - first frost in years. The place was rammed and rides hard to get on.

We did Christmas and new year in 2007 20th December for 3 weeks. We went to Epcot for NYE and was told by a cast member a few days before to get there early as it will shut due to maximum capacity. We got there at 7am and left at 3am the next morning! It was by far, the best NYE ever and the fireworks were like nothing we’ve ever seen before. There was lots more to do around the park than normal and they gave out hats and horns around 10pm. It was beyond busy and it got maximum capacity around 11am. We heard Magic kingdom and MGM studios closed too. We didn’t have children then so sitting around drinking all day and taking the day as it was, wasn’t an issue but we wouldn’t do it now with kids.
