Travelling to Spain with someone else’s child

Has anyone had any experience of taking a friends child to Spain. I obviously have the child’s passport and a signed declaration of consent to travel from his parents. Do I need the declaration notarised as everyone I have attempted to ask just states parental declaration from parents is required.

I travelled to the US with one of dd's friends. We had signed consent but nothing notarised. If it was ok there then I'm sure you'd be fine in Europe.

Within the EU it shouldn't be necessary to have it notarised ... so unless you travel after Brexit, you are certainly fine. To be extra safe, take a copy of the childs birth certificate as well as copies of the parents' passports.

I think the notarising thing comes from the rules for a Spanish minor travelling without parents. I don’t think a British minor needs it but a letter from parents is helpful. You can email the relevant embassy to check for sure.
