USA post brexit

I booked a trip to the USA back in January & itโ€™s just occurred to me that we are travelling on 1 November which is of course the day after Brexit ๐Ÿ™„
Iโ€™m hoping it will be okay & will now look for good travel insurance. Itโ€™s a package booked through a reputable company who have said they will keep us updated & if they need to change or cancel the holiday that will be covered. There doesnโ€™t seem to be any info online about travel to the USA atm but wondering if anyone had any other advice? Iโ€™m thinking just sit & wait it out for now.

As long as our flights can still take off. Shouldnโ€™t be any difference in travel to the states. Though dollar crashing more and more.

Why should travelling to the USA be affected by Brexit?

lljkk · 29/07/2019 21:21

Potential problem Has to do with the rules about being insured to use European air space; how it's all regulated.

They shouldn't be any flight disruption - see current advice:

www.gov.uk/guidance/passenger-travel-to-the-eu-by-air-rail-or-sea-after-brexit

Flights to America would never be directly affected by brexit as our flight agreement with the US is not dependent on our EU membership. So, you'd only have to worry about EU flights not going ahead and then having a knock on effect on non-eu flights. This was something I was previously worried about as it wasn't until just before Christmas that the government was able to give assurances about air travel in the event of no deal.

Thanks for that link leghair. The rational side of me believes it will be fine as itโ€™s outside the EU. Iโ€™ll just be disappointed if we canโ€™t go but I guess thereโ€™s no point worrying too much until they release more info.

I thought weโ€™d know where we were up to by booking for so late in the year. Typical!

is it like trains, though... planes arriving somewhere may be going out to somewhere else... a giant moving jigsaw puzzle. So if EU flights get disrupted there could be knock on effects with planes not being where they are supposed to be at right times.
Just pondering!

Yes true lljkk I know there was massive problems the other week with Thomas cook purely because 2 of their planes were out of action. Iโ€™ll just make sure Iโ€™m protected financially & see what happens. Not much more to be done I guess.
