Passport signing

I’m applying for my first adult passport and struggling to find someone to sign my photo and form.. I asked if someone who worked in the raf could do it and was told they had to be an officer, he’s not an officer but has worked in the raf a long time, would this be ok? I’ve seen the list which is said to be professions and don’t have anybody else

I think I will, at the end of the day the RAF to me is someone of good standing in the community so I don’t see why not Hmm thank you!

@RubberTreePlant

Stop trying to make something out of it.

Yes OP knows they said no, yet she made a thread asking Mumsnet if it would be ok.

No it won't be ok, because the passport office said no.

I didn't post any of that to create an argument, it's just quite simply the facts.

Maybe stay out of it?

Jaffacakebeast · 26/07/2019 23:38

Local pub land lord did mine 🍻

MrsFezziwig · 26/07/2019 23:38

Am I completely misunderstanding this? Does the Gov website not say that the person who signs can EITHER be a member of a certain profession (list of example professions given, but does not say it is limited to these) OR a person of good standing in the community?
In which case, the person who works for the RAF (assuming he isn't a criminal) would be fine to sign, as long as you have known him for at least two years.
And if this is correct, then the advice given by the person at the passport office is wrong - well I'm sure no-one has ever been given incorrect information by someone in a government department Hmm

Exactly.

Good luck. Come back and tell us the outcome. This is always cropping up on MN Smile

MrsFezziwig · 26/07/2019 23:41

I would also be really interested to know if anyone has ever had their countersignatory refused, and if so on what grounds?

Annie9112 · 26/07/2019 23:45

Ok well for the third time, he has signed others and others are saying they have signed passports without being on the list. So why don’t you stay out of it as I’m getting sick of repeating myself

Annie9112 · 26/07/2019 23:47

I just thought it was someone of a profession that was listed on the site? I’m going to go with him and see what happens, he has a British passport and a good job so surely they won’t refuse just because he’s not an officer. Let’s wait and see

I wasn't talking to you. I gave that up when you told me to go and 'watch paint dry'. I was responding other posters.

Engineers with a professional qualification can sign passport photos

MrsFezziwig · 26/07/2019 23:49

Extract from the GOV UK website:

Who can sign your form and photo
Your countersignatory must:

have known you (or the adult who signed the form if the passport is for a child under 16) for at least 2 years
be able to identify you, for example they’re a friend, neighbour or colleague (not just someone who knows you professionally)
be ‘a person of good standing in their community’ OR work in (or be retired from) a recognised profession

MrsMop7 maybe you're the one who should stay out of it?

Annie9112 · 26/07/2019 23:51

Thank you for this! I’ve obviously just skipped past the OR bit haha. I guess he will be fine to do it! Smile

MrsMop7 · 26/07/2019 23:52

maybe you're the one who should stay out of it?

Indeed. Imagine suggesting the passport office know best Grin

To be fair, I don't disagree that the person would fall under 'good standing' but if the passport office has already said no I'm not sure why anyone would go ahead and do it anyway.

HeronLanyon · 27/07/2019 00:20

Minor point but for a government website to list those occupations and professions as ‘recognised professions’ is a bit startling !
Good luck op - is go for your rag engineer as coming within the second category - as long as you’ve known him/her for two years or more.

HeronLanyon · 27/07/2019 00:22

That was meant to say ‘I’d go for your RAF engineer’

HeddaGarbled · 27/07/2019 00:32

I know - it’s like a list of middle class jobs with trade union official thrown in as a sop.
