Need a list of must do things to, see places to go, places to eat etc.

Have DTDs aged 6 and DD1 aged 15m

Already have on list of potentials
Wookey Hole and/or Cheddar gorge
Street/Clarkes village (new school shoes etc!!!)
Bristol balloon fiesta
Animal Farm bewteen Burnham & Weston

Where is the best beach in the area (staying at Burnham Haven site)?
Do they still do pony rides at Weston?

Thanks,

Go further along to Brean, nicer beach and Weston is OK. In Weston there is the Sea Life Centre which is quite good, small and manageable and with a ticket you get unlimited entry for the day so good for popping in and out.

For a quick trip out there is Sanders Garden World and really near to where you are staying. It is essentially a garden centre but a good play area, pirate ship etc and outside coffee shop.

If you are going up to Bristol there is loads to do. One really great place aside from all the usual things is Blaise Castle Estate with large park/playground and lots of things for different age children. It is not far from the M5 and you also have to go past Cribbs Causeway (shopping mall)to get there.

Animal Farm on your list is a really good day out.

I will try and think of some good places to eat.

Stayed at Cheddar last year.

Weston, yes pony rides and bouncy castles etc on the beach. The beach at Brean is nicer though.

Cheddar village is a nice little morning out but be prepared there are lots of toyshops and a great dolls house shop.

We spent a day shopping at Clifton is it, the retail park with the John Lewis.

I personally LOVE Bath but it is more a grown up type of place, we went pre-children.

Used to live in Bath pre DC and I don't think DCs would be impressed due to lack of beach/fairground/softploay!!!. DP wants to go back for prosperity but I think it will get bumped off the list in preferance for more family friendly days out.

West Somerset railway and Tropiquaria are good if you are prepared to go a bit further afield (towards Minehead). Ebbor Gorge (near Cheddar)is good for a walk that might interest kids - lots of twisty paths and you actually have to clamber up the back of the gorge. And fantastic views at the end - maybe a leetle scary with small children though due to cliffs Good walks at Blackrock (again near Cheddar). Remains of old Roman lead mines so lots of dips and hollows. @Bristol (in Bristol surprisingly is fun.

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 18:05

Is @Bristol the hands on sciency thing near the railway for kids?

No that's now the Empire & Commonwealth Museum, @Bristol is near the docks.

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 23:04

Thats a shame. Having remonded myself of its existance I thought it would be good to go there (I had fun 10years ago )

@Bristol is really good too though

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 23:08

Just looking at website - it looks quite good actually. Will the 6yos be too young? And is it near SS Great Britain as I think my parents would probably go there instead?

My ds went last summer when he was just 5 and really enjoyed it.

I haven't been, but the SS Great Britain is supposed to be fantastic now and has recently won a really prestigious award for education/interpretation. Great for families, have been meaning to visit with mine but not got round to it yet. I think you might all enjoy it there.

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 23:15

Hmmmm....this could be expensive.

There is soo much to do in that part of the country - which we knid of knew as we used to live there and which is why we are coming there with DCs.

I am not sure how we will narrow down our list now....

Well if you do decide to go to the SS Great Britain i'd be really interested to hear what you thought

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 23:22

Not sure if I fancy it TBH....I think given the amount on our list (+beach once or twice to limit costs if we can) it is liekly to fall off.

I expect my parents will go though as DSF is very into nautical stuff.

Just looking at the website - one ticket lasts a whole year so if you are local it could be worth it.
