First holiday abroad

NC1987 · 22/07/2019 21:44

Just booked our first holiday abroad this year for us and our 6 kids (blended family)
Have went all inclusive but no idea how much spending money to take, how much clothes etc to take? Or even where to start with packing etc

Any tips would be much appreciated

Where, when, how long, ages of kids, which hotel?

Soontobe60 · 22/07/2019 21:50

If it's AI you'll need very little money if you're intending to stay at the hotel most of the time.
You will, however, need either money or food for the airport / flight. Buying food and drink onboard is really expensive! Have you got all the passports sorted?

NC1987 · 22/07/2019 21:51

Yes passports are sorted..
It's in September
Kids are aged between 5 and 16..

You might not all be seated together in the plane. It will be very hot at that time of year so make sure you've got p,entry of sun cream. Buy decent swim t shisrts for the younger children to keep them safe in the sun.
Clothes will dry very quickly if you need to rinse them out. Just take t shirts and shorts for the kids. Forget jeans, hoodies etc. You will not need them! Make sure you've got hats, the sun can be very fierce.

Really? Why wouldn't they seat us together? Surely they can't put the kids on their own 🙈🙈

You need to precook your seats. Go for ones at the back, it's cheaper 👍

It depends on the airline whether you'll get seats together without paying. It's only really Ryanair that deliberately split passengers up.

With 8 of you, you should get at least some seats together, so each parent can be next to a younger DC and then the teens can be OK on their own for a couple of hours.

AI you can get away with very little spending money unless you want lots of excursions, waterparks, theme parks, eating out, but read the moneysavingexpert page on travel money and probably get both adults Starling accounts and just put some money in there to either spend on debit card or withdraw cash. No real need to take actual cash these days.

Also read your airline's website to make sure you understand what luggage allowance you have, when to check in and the liquids rules. Because if you get it wrong, you could be faced with paying a lot extra at the airport or having things taken off you.
