Taking child abroad with different surname

Due to go abroad with my DC who has a different surname to myself. DP (who has same surname as DC) cannot come on trip, so I'm wondering if I'm going to have issues at security? We've never had issues travelling before, but DP has always been there. Do I need to take extra documents with me? U.K to Spain. Thanks!

Take birth certificate and letter of permission from dp. You may or may not be asked for it but better to have it just in case

Thanks!

As above. It’s not so much the surname thing but the fact that the other parent isn’t with you. International parental abduction is a big thing, blatant international stranger abduction not nearly so common!

We usually get "questioned". DC is extremely white blond, and me and dp are quite dark, so think this is why they frequently stop us. Just trying to be extra prepared incase they suspect something dodgy!

I've been questionned at border control several times for this reason. I would take your DCs birth certificate to avoid hassle.

Just take DC birth certificate with you.
