Hi all,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice please?
I'm looking to get some mosquito bracelets for my 11/9 year olds as well as my 17month old. Does anyway have any experience using these? Can anyone recommend a particular brand?

My concern is more so the baby will he want to put the thing in his mouth and will it do him any harm if he does?
Thanks

We used them in Costa Rica 3 years ago - one on every wrist & ankle. Sorry but in our instance at least they didn’t work - a mosquito landed on my ankle right next to a freshly put on bracelet & tried to bite me, that’s how useless they were!

If you are going somewhere in Europe where there aren’t the really nasty mosquito born diseases I’d go with one of the Mosi-Guard natural products. Avon Skin So Soft is also useless.

I've used the Deet bracelets/anklets by Mosi-off in Africa & can highly recommend them. I don't know whether they are suitable for children, perhaps your GP/nurse could advise.

Research has shown that some people react to bites and others don't so some people will think they are protected when they are not, they just don't react. Without proper protection everyone gets bitten. Bracelets don't work very well, if at all.
There are some useful tips here; www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-play/Pages/Summer-Safety-Tips-Staying-Safe-Outdoors.aspx

It all depends on how important it is not to be bitten. If there is no disease of concern then you can avoid DEET products but if the alternative is malaria, dengue or chikungunya then it's definitely preferable.

Antihistamine creams or tablets are useful for treating bites.

Thank you all for the replies. A lot of food for thought. We are going to Michigan and actually staying at a lake house. We've been told there are a lot of midgies and mosquitoes there. So as far as I know the mosquitoes don't carry any disease but I'm not sure it was more the inconvenience of being bitten and scratching for the kids Hmm xx
