Hi There,

My husband and I are planning a driving holiday to the Black Forest with our 7.5 and 3.5 year old boys in August.

We have approx 9 days for the trip in total, are planning on getting the ferry from Hull to Zebrugge and would like to do an overnight stop off between Zebrugge and The Black Forest.

We would also like to do a stop off somewhere on the way home, before we arrive at Calais to board the Euro Tunnel home.

We have approx 6 days / nights in the Black Forest.

Can anyone recommend any villages to visit, places to stay, accommodation, activities for our trip.

It is our first driving holiday and also our first trip to Germany.

Thank you :)

I think any of my recommendations of where to stay will be fully booked for August. The farm stay we stayed at near Gutach had a trampoline, swings, slides as well as go carts, tricycles, and bikes or the whole family to use. We enjoyed racing up and down the private road. The accommodation was cheap, comfortable and included a hearty breakfast. We stayed atUrlaub auf dem Joklisbauernhof.

I’d recommend going to Triberg waterfall which is Germany’s highest waterfall, and one of the top attractions of Black Forest. A pathway leads to the top of the waterfall through the forest, with several viewing platforms en route. The walk is fun, adventurous and easy enough even for little children. You can also buy a bag of peanuts to feed the squirrels, there weren’t many around the day we visited but apparently, it can vary.

My dc were captivated by all the cuckoo clocks in Triberg. Triberg is home to the largest cuckoo clock which on the side of a building just outside of the main town. For a few Euros, you can enter the small museum and se the mechanism behind the clock.

Steinwasen Park is a lovely little theme park with a variety of rides and several species of animals.

The most popular summer toboggan run is Seewald Leisure Park, which has South Germany’s longest toboggan run (1500 meters) along with many other fun activities.

My dc really enjoyed Baumkronenweg Waldkirch where there’s a treetop pathway and (another) slide!
