Villa Pia

We have booked to go to Villa Pia in September with dd (15 mths).

I have just read a (very grumpy) review of Villa Pia here.

Reviews on mumsnet and tripadvisor are generally pretty good but the one thing that bothered me in this latest review was the comment that the bedrooms don't have locks on them...

Can anyone who has been comment on this ?

Thanks

S

When we were there 3 years ago we staye din the main house and rooms did not have locks on them. It did feel a bit odd but most people had brought baby m onitors and brought them down to dinner.
I did wondre after the madeliane thing whether VP would put locks on the door.
I read the grumpy review and can only say that we had a nice and relaxing time; everyone had kids som you didn't have to worry about noise and upsetting other people.
By the way my dd loved the gravel (aged 3 at the time) and played with it all the time in a very handy wheelbarrow provided by VP

When are you going susiemum? We're going on 1 Sep, our first time also.

We came back from Villa Pia a few weeks ago.

There are still no locks on the bedroom doors but that didn't worry me at all.Tperson in the review sounds very uptight and security conscous, if that's you you may feel anxious whilst there.

All children went to bed before the parents ate, no one seemed to worry about this (if you are in the annexe which is not near the manin house they provide a babysitter), no one had babymonitors either, but then no one had babies that week.

I think all the babies go in sreptember.

I was anxous about leaving the children in the room for dinner before we went (in light of the MM abduction) but everyone did, us included, it felt very (but like everything else not entirely) safe.

We had a very relaxing week, great food, goos compny and really enjoyed it. Bit claustrphobic by the end, a week was enough.

Thanks SP. I guess we will have to see how we feel when we get there.

Did you do any trips to local towns villages while you were staying at VP ?

We hardly went out SusieMum! It has that sort of effect on you and you feel quite institutionalised by the end of the week.

we went to Arezzo for the day on the Thursday when they provide no food and that was a very lovely town.
VP is surrounded by little hill top towns and villages which are loevly (so I'm told) and many close by. They provide lots of info on places to visit once you arrive.

we had a few days in Sienna after our week there which was really lovely, good to have a few days just the family after constant socialising. Most poele seemed to be goibg on somewhere else and making it part of a 2 centre holiday.

Thry offer babysitting which you can book, which we didn't use but would defeinetly use if we went agin to have a night out by ourselves. Some peopel used this on the night when no food was provided.

it was dfeinetly the most realxing holiday I've had since having children.

i was really interested in villa pia as a friend recommended it to us and loves it - she has been three times - she loves the social environment

but the lack of simple security puts me off - it is so easy to put locks on the doors and to have a member of staff do baby listening in the main house as well as the annex - i think it is just common sense - the lock thing is not just about nutters, but about not wanting my toddler or five year old to wander out of the room!

Just returned from Villa Pia, have been going on and off for 7 yrs, and will be going back for another 7 if I have my way. Can't comment on security as youngest is now 8 and doesn't go to bed until late when there, but have left him since 6 months alone in bedrooms while having supper and don't ever worry about it there.

On the subject of eating - the food was fantasic as usual and lived up to expectations and indeed exceeded them this year. Very fresh local ingrediants imaginatively prepared. Like having Jamie Oliver in the kitchen. Can't rate it higher really.

Thanks for the latest message. We are going there tomorrow and I'm really looking fwd to it. DD is 15 months so I know it'll not be like the holidays we used to have in terms of lounging around, but she is so much fun at the moment that it'll be great to spend the whole week with her.
