Travel anxiety

Help!
I get anxious when travelling. It’s mostly fear of being ill while away, which perpetuates itself by giving me runny bum through anxiety.
I’ve got a long haul holiday next year and I want to really enjoy it without feeling bloody anxious and annoyed with myself.
Anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

i always have medicine with me and if i'm feeling bad, especially if i'm about to travel i take one. i also dont eat out the night before we come home, so i know that since i've cooked the meal i should be fine. also dont eat in any places that i havent checked out the reviews of first

but its mainly having the tablets that works as i know i have something to sort it

A professor of mine told me to always brush teeth with tap water, not bottled water. Builds up your immunity to local bugs. I think airplanes are the worst. I'm not a clean freak, but I wash my hands as much as possible when in airports and on planes and take anti bac gel with me.
I've been ill in a range of different countries (have travelled lots and also lived in various countries). Never been a big deal. There are doctors everywhere.

I've never been ill on a longhaul holiday nor has anyone in my family.

I do check reviews thoroughly before booking hotels - check people don't mention food poisoning (at least not regular incidents). We often eat at hotel (dinner and breakfast) but if not would just quickly check place looks clean.

I follow local advice for drinking water including brushing teeth. If its unclear I use bottled water including for teeth.

I do take hand gel and sometimes a packet of immodium. If we are going off beaten track I sometimes take a pack of anti-bac wipes but think I've only needed to clean a room once.

If anywhere looks borderline I tend to avoid things with higher risk of food poisoning like chicken, salads left out in heat for hours etc.

But generally if you have checked reviews there really isn't much to worry about. I generally amazed how clean places are. Only things I've got in Europe is ear infections (apart from food poisoning in Nice probably chicken) which are possibly from pools but love swimming so not stopping that but try to get places with chlorine in pool. Obviously also get vaccines required.

I suffer with the same problem of anxiety but this is partly because I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease. My advice is - have good travel insurance in case you do get sick. If possible book a trip with a travel agency - so if anything goes wrong they'll help you. Pack: Immodium , also Dialoryte ( great if you get upset stomach and get dehydrated). I always take my Bach Rescue Remedy Spray - not sure if it helps but it makes me feel better. I find the build up to the holiday the most stressful, once I've left the house and am on my way I feel much calmer!
Finally : ENJOY yourself and remember all the trips you've taken when you DIDN"T get sick. !
