I've been to Olu Deeniz but that was about 18 years ago!

At the time it was relatively undiscovered with one biggish hotel and lots of little family run B&B type places. Its a beautiful setting so has now become quite popular I believe with lots of hotels that have sprung up.

The access to Olu Deniz was down a very windy, steep road that I found a bit terrifying as the roads aren't (or weren't at the time) finished off quite as well as we're used to. Driving is a bit too.

We found it very cheap to eat and drink out. I'm veggie but don't remember having any problems finding suitable food athough can't remember what I actually ate other than breakfast which was bread, olives, feta cheese, tomatoes and rose petal jam (every morning for 2 weeks).

It is likely to be very hot.

I loved it.

PS -be careful if you swim in the lagoon as I ended up with gastroenteritis from swallowing some water (as its a lagoon the water tends to get a bit stagnant hence increased bugs in it)

We were in Turkey about 11 years ago, not the same area, we stayed in Gumbet near Bodrum.

We went in October and the weather was lovely, it was really cheap, the food was gorgeous (but we had the squits by the end of our stay, judging by the queue for the toilet on the plane we weren't alone). We did really enjoy Turkey and I would like to go back. If I did go back I would be a bit more selective when eating out. Also be careful of anyone who wants to put you on a camel and take a photo with your own camera (this cost of £14 and the placing of the man's hands whilst helping me into the seat and out was quite inappropriate ).

Yes ggirl, watch the older Turkish men, I was only 21 (sigh) when I visited Turkey and I found them very leery and a bit touchy feely if they got the chance.

hi, has nayone been to turkey with a little baby.im going to istanbul so really wanted to know if baby food is easily available over there. thanks

mckenzie · 31/07/2007 19:12

Wizzywig - I'm sure it will be. The Turks have to feed their babies jars sometimes as well as us Brits I would have thought.

Ggirl - we've just come back from 2 weeks in Turkey at a resort near to OluDeniz. We didn't get out of our resort much at all but hen we did we were met with friendly, pleasant people and places. There were some great classic 'Brits Abroad' places to eat and also some more genuine Turkish restaurants and also a mix in between.
We found Dalaman airport to be the biggest rip off of all. You have to pay £10 tax per person when you enter and if you dont have the correct change then tough, they'll keep you're £50 note for example even if you are only paying for 2 people. And a cup of instant coffee will cost you 6 euros!

MrsSpoon · 31/07/2007 22:10

Oh Mckenzie they still do the £10 thing, I'd forgotten all about that. You have to have a £10 English note (we are in Scotland so that meant a trip to the Bank) per person for your Visa on entry to Turkey. Nice thing is you get a stamp on your passport.

mckenzie · 31/07/2007 22:12

yes, they still do the £10 thing. Outrageous isn't it?

We went to Turkey a few years ago (BC) and it was awesome - we started in Istanbul and took a bus down through Cappadocia, down to the sea (Antalya), then up the west coast. We went to Olu Deniz, which was beautiful, Fethiye and a few other places that I've forgotten the names of.

We were there in April (around ANZAC Day (April 25)), and so probably cooler than your times.

We found it really cheap.

Food was cheap and yummy

Loved it.

We also took a day trip to Kusadasi recently from Samos, and while it is very touristy, and you have to bargain for everything, so long as you have fun with it, it's all very enjoyable.

It's a great place, I'd be keen to go again,
