Can you travel on an unexpired passport if you applied online to renew it

We’re going on holiday in six days time. My dd’s passport is valid for all of this holiday. She has another flight in late July and her passport is due to expire while she’s away so I’ll need to renew it ahead of this trip.
If I renew it online now will she still be able to travel on the old one for the holiday next week?

I’ve just done both an adult and a child renewal online (and yes, they won’t even process it until they get the old one back) both took just a week to come back so if you do the online application the day before you travel home and then post the old passport as soon as you get back then you should get it back in time for the next trip

I had to fast track my son’s passport and the slots available were a week away, though the actual passport arrived just a couple days later. So don’t expect to just rock up. Book your appointment NOW.

(go earliest you can dd will have to attend!
Children don’t need to attend appointments actually neither do adults anyone can go on their behalf x

Sorry x!

I thought you need 6 months left on a passport to travel with it.

You can travel on a passport up to and including the date of expiry within the eu.
Turns out we’ll be ok as the trip back is from ireland and with both parents. It’ll be aerlingus and children under 16 don’t need a passport if they’re travelling with their parent with Aer Lingus.
Thanks for your helpful advice

That’s really good news. Hope both trips go well.
