Short haul that’s actually quick?

Just spent time in Tuscany and it took the best part of a day to get there. Our fault as we had bags to check and a car hire to pick up but considering the flight was only 2 hours it took most of the day.
We want to book somewhere that’s a short flight and then quick and easy public transport to a city at the other end. Probably going in September. Any good suggestions? Thanks

You don’t say where you live - do you happen to be near a Eurostar terminal? We are in London and for a short break prefer Eurostar, you only have to be at the station 40 mins or so before the train (rather than 2 hours before a flight) so that saves loads of time, but also you usually get off the train and are in the middle of the city you’re visiting, rather than having to get a connection.

I vote for Seville, Granada or Malaga - I wouldn’t hire a car for a 3 day trip to any. All great cities with lots to see, much walkable if you stay central.

Casaisaelena · 07/07/2019 19:24

If you’re going for longer, I’d start without car hire, see the city and then get a car to explore a little further afield.

Bologna airport is about a 10 minute taxi ride into town.

Sunbeam18 · 07/07/2019 22:20

Aix en Provence - flight to Marseille and in Aix by lunchtime if you get early flight

Hersetta427 · 08/07/2019 12:46

Palma in Majorca took 2 hrs 5 mins from London

Bratislava is a great short haul. it's only about 15/20 mins by bus to the city from the airport. Once you've spent some time there you can get the river boat to Vienna.
Berlin is easy as well. It just a relatively short train ride to Alexander Platz.
Gothenborg is a quick ride to the city and so is Gdansk.

Val5555 · 14/07/2019 08:18

Amsterdam is by far the quickest. 50 min flight and train from airport to city in 15 mins.

Ellmau · 14/07/2019 11:21

Anywhere in Switzerland has integrated transport from the airport. But it is expensive.

AlpenCrazy · 15/07/2019 22:52

We were in Dubrovnik by 10am on a 6am flight

Wrongdissection · 15/07/2019 22:55

Definitely Nice. You could walk to the city centre from the airport if you could be arsed.

TheFlis12345 · 15/07/2019 22:55

Seville, never been through an airport so quickly in my life. We were in a taxi heading to our hotel 11 minutes after the wheels touched down.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 16/07/2019 12:40

Yes I walked back to the airport from Nice centre last time I went, it's not far at all.

Jojoanna · 16/07/2019 12:42

nmg85 · 16/07/2019 22:11

Malaga, Valencia, Verona / Lake Garda, Madrid, Porto are all great and maximum 30min from airport - city.

DreamingofSunshine · 19/07/2019 09:06

Lisbon is very close to the airport. Or the Channel Islands!
