Am I mad? 3 hour train with a toddler

Travelling for three hours on a train on my own to see my parents who are in the country for a short time. DD is 20 months and usually well behaved. I've flown on my own with her before but never on the train (DP has always been with me). I'm trying to treat it as an adventure but am also panicking that it'll be hell. Suppose I'm just asking for any advice or experiences? Also I'm travelling with Thames link and then greater anglia and just wondering whether I'll need to fold the pushchair when getting on and off the train? TIA

Look at getting a family railcard so you can buy her a ticket and therefore a seat.

I find trains easier than flying as you can walk around. Be prepared for lots of "exploring".

Take a few small toys, books and snacks and you'll be fine.

Really? Are you serious? 3 hours with your own child and your panicking? Keep them topped up with snacks and keep them entertained.

Failing that Can’t you get a large travel crate like you use to take a dog to the vets and dose them up with calpol? (Joking!)

I did loads of long train journeys on my own when my DC were little. Yes to getting them their own seat. The big advantage of trains is that you can walk around so you’re not trapped in your seat the whole time. Yes to an activity bag with snacks and games. And I’d fold the pushchair getting on and off, I think. It depends if there’s some steep steps onto the train. A rucksack or backpack for you is better than a case as it leaves your hands free.
