Where to go on holiday with a 6/7 month old

We're looking at going away in June/July 2020 (we are able to change but not too late as I'll be back at work at the end of August), it'll be our first family holiday with our DD that's due at the beginning of December.

We don't want to pay a fortune with rubbish mat pay, saving for baby stuff etc, it soon adds up! We're just looking for somewhere in Europe so we don't have a long flight.

Any ideas on where to go and also suggestions on reducing costs etc would be good? TIA

I’d go to an all-inclusive with a great toddler pool, a sandy beach and a shady kids club. All-inclusive as then it’s more of a holiday for you too. Anywhere in Europe. They won’t care where you go and you can just look for the best prices. In early June it won’t be too hot and you’ll get great deals as it’s still term time for everyone.

We used to go to a mobile home park in Brittany. Took our own car on the ferry. Car seat too. We always chose somewhere with great beaches and a pool. Wonderful food can be found and you can visit old towns and have a good look around without feeling enclosed and beholden to AI. (My idea of hell).

Tui family life hotels are brilliant with small children. You can get some great deals too. We did Sardinia last year for just over £1k for 3 of us.

The food was AMAZING!!

Portugal has no time difference, we found that a life saver with our 6 month old!

Some good ideas, we were looking at places in Spain (Balearics) are so expensive for a half decent hotel! Will definitely have a look at the Tui family hotels!

I always forget about Portugal but going to have a look

If you can avoid school holidays that will keep prices down so June rather than July. Worth looking up dates of school holidays were you are going as holidays can start earlier abroad.

At that age we did apartments with restaurants and pool on site so you could easily get food or self cater and plenty of space. If you are happy to just self cater AirBNB are often good value - you can select superhost to get very recommended ones. Prices are cheaper out of cities but you may need to factor in car hire.

Also worth looking where can get cheap flights to - we are going to Norway and Sweden this year and flights were incredibly cheap. Lovely AirBNBs in Norway. North of Italy has surprisingly cheap flights too.

You don't need a kids club, at that age they expect parents to stay with a baby in a playroom. Depending on your baby you may need to look for babysitting services if you want.

We drove at that age unless it was a short visit to the parents in Germany. I think it is just easier than packing for a baby with formula (if you ff) or one which just started weaning into suitcases to take on a flight.

France is lovely, the Dutch coast is nice, Germany is doeable in driving distance with a stopover ideally.

If you like mountains you can look up Kinderhotels, they do cater for small children and also provide everyting you may think you need. They are mainly in Austria.

Some TUI hotels have baby clubs where children can be left with qualified early years practitioners. They run on the same premise as the kids clubs - so two hour slots but you usually have to pay for them.
They aren't expensive though.

We did Portugal with our 8-9 month old. Was a bit of a nightmare as they are at that crawling age but the ground is hot and they aren't walking, just starting to think about weaning and coming out of the 4 month sleep regression.

I'd leave it until later to book and play it by ear or go in this country. Easier to load a car, take what you need and manage child in heat when on the move. If you are insistent on abroad, try Portugal
