Train travel cards

Hi everyone

I’ve just joined mums net as always see so many helpful threads.

Just wondering if anyone knows the cheapest way to travel on the train etc. My partner like to travel and I have just become aware of two travel together cards, with a third off costs, but there are limitations in this. So, if better to get individual. I also think there maybe extra offers with some of the cards.

Thanks Smile

How old are you?

The only restrictions are on morning peak times, which apply to all railcards as far as I know. I have a senior railcard and DD has a 16 - railcard, and they have the same restrictions.

The two together cards are a bit pointless as they only work if you only ever travel together. For the same price, you can get a Network railcard which covers the holder individually plus up to any 3 people travelling with them at any one time.

"For the same price, you can get a Network railcard"

The Network Railcard is even more restrictive as it can only be used in the South East. No use anyone living in other parts of the UK. What if the OP wants to travel to Scotland?

Thankyou so much for the advice, really appreciated. We are both 52 and can see restrictions and bonus with both. I will do a bit more checking and then trial one for a year . Thanks again Smile

You can often get discounts on purchasing railcards, there is often 10% off, sometimes more, so look out for that before you buy. Also don't get a railcard until you are ready to travel - they expire a year after purchase, so inly buy one when you are ready to use it!

Thank you, that is really helpful

Also, if you have Tesco clubcard points, each £1 gets turned into £3, if you purchase a Railcard through their partner scheme.
You log into Tesco, redeem the points, and you'll get sent a voucher code, which you then enter on the Railcard site.
