Firstly, apologies for not knowing the county names/regions!

We're traveling to north Wales (Wrexham direction) in the coming weeks and I'm looking for recommendations for days out with our 4.5 and 1.5 yr olds. There seems to be so many options, I want to use our time wisely.

These are the attractions I have seen already, some with mixed reviews online if anyone can advise:

Mattel play, Liverpool
Museum of Liverpool
Gullivers world and splash world, Warrington
Inflataworld (or similar?) Manchester
Lego discovery centre, Manchester or Birmingham- which is better?

We have been to Thomas land before but we wouldn't rule out a return visit if it's better than the above!

TIA!

The ice cream farm! DS is 3 and we’ve been several times in the last 18 months, including today. It’s an hour and a half from me (north wales) so all the previous times I’ve made a minibreak out of it, it’s so worth it.

There’s also the techniquest in Glyndwr university and the blue planet aquarium. There’s a new water park/swimming pool in Rhyl as well.

ClownTent · 24/06/2019 18:54

I’ve just had another look at the places you’ve listed and mine are all much closer to Wrexham, the techniquest actually in Wrexham. If you are going to Liverpool, there’s a fab place called Imagine That, too. Don’t forget Chester zoo, either!

bollocksitshappenedagain · 24/06/2019 18:56

Chester zoo is fantastic

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 24/06/2019 20:25

Thanks. The farm park looks fab, as does the waterpark! I'll have to check out techniquest and chester zoo. clowntent I'm not necessarily going to Liverpool, I just happened to find those attractions when I googled!

Ice cream farm is excellent also Cheshire candle workshops, bit run down but good activities in stunning surroundings.
Museum of Liverpool, this is actually several different sites, Liverpool is good for a weekend of its own, some info here

Crab fishing at New Brighton, Seaview Cafe for a traditional English Cafe, don't see these much now.

Crazy golf is good too.

Gypsy woods in north Wales

Lego discovery centre is rubbish. Mattel land can be fun. The basement is all fireman Sam related, they have all the vehicles and the kids dress up as firemen. DS thought he was a fireman. He loved it.

The nearest nice beach is probably Telacre, which is good if the weather's nice. Lots of nice National trust properties to get some fresh air. Erddig in Wrexham or Bodnant Gardens is lovely. Dunham Massey and the deer park more Cheshire/mar way.

I second Chester zoo which is amazing. My DS likes the monorail as much if not more than the animals.

Also agree Cheshire Ice Cream Farm is great.

HippyChickMama · 26/06/2019 21:25

Not sure how far you want to travel, though it's nowhere near as far as Thomas Land or Birmingham, but Greenwood park in North Wales is a good day out. We go every time we go to Wales

Mattel play was only interesting to DS up until he was about 3. Not a huge amount there. Museum of Liverpool has Little Liverpool which is like water play (fishing with nets, boats etc) which is good for younger ones. The museum has quite a lot of stuff for little ones to fiddle with on the way round too.

Park Hall countryside experience near Oswestry is good. DS is 4 and we've stopped there twice this year on the way through Wales and we've done a good 6 hours there each time. They have lots of animals, indoor play, softplay with a brick loader, tractor rides etc.

There's also Farmer Ted's which is Lancashire so might be too far north. Similar to Park Hall but probably not quite as big. We've had a good time there too.

Imagine That! is great too.

nespressowoo · 26/06/2019 21:35

Delamere forest for the gruffalo trail

Erddig house near Wrexham is beautiful. It's a National Trust place.

Alyn Waters is also lovely.

Ice cream farm and Chester zoo are good shouts. The zoo has a predators exhibition on at the moment so if your kids love dinosaurs it will be fab.

nespressowoo · 26/06/2019 21:36

@Sleepinglemon they are closing the monorail at the end of the summer Sad

nespressowoo · 26/06/2019 21:38

Also The Groves in Chester is lovely. You can feed the squirrels and there is a mini-train you can ride on. You can also do boat rides along the river.

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/06/2019 21:42

Legoland and the Sea Life center at the Trafford Centre are both rubbish.
Museum of Liverpool is great.

Hi all,

Thanks again for the recommendations, we had a great time on holiday! I have a play pass for the ice cream farm that has about 10 passes left if anybody wants it? Just pm your address and I can post. There's no expiry date on it.
