I've overpaid on my Tui holiday - refund?

SummerLovinHadMeABlast · 22/06/2019 15:36

I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation?

I have changed my holiday through Tui to a cheaper one. I've paid an amendment fee of £100. My new confirmation email says:

Amount Paid to Date: £2,395.00

Balance Overpaid: £1,241.36

This is inclusive of the £100 amendment fee and they've put my £300 deposit for the first holiday against the balance of the second (so I don't owe them anything else) therefore I'm expecting a refund of £1,241.36.

I've not had any sort of email from them and there's no indication in this email about when I will receive this refund. They take about ten days to respond to emails and I'd rather not phone. Can't find any info online about this specific type of refund either. Does anybody else have any idea?

I'd be ringing them if they had £1200 of my money!

PotteringAlong · 22/06/2019 15:38

Ring! Ring now!

donajimena · 22/06/2019 15:38

You need to ring them. That's a shit load of money.

Aberforthsgoat · 22/06/2019 15:39

Why don’t you want to phone? Half the time emails they don’t respond to your actual query, they just spout some standard script. You’re
much better off ringing them

TalkinAboutManetManet · 22/06/2019 15:40

I'd rather not phone

Why ever not?!

Ribeebie · 22/06/2019 15:43

Ring them and get your money back! I'd have been onto them as soon as I'd spotted it. It's over a grand!

SummerLovinHadMeABlast · 22/06/2019 15:47

Sorry, should have explained why I'm adverse to phoning - last time I was on hold for 45 mins when I had a simple enquiry about the original holiday. I never seem to get through right away (not sure i'd ever book an online Tui holiday again due to difficulty trying to speak to an agent/ask a question).

You must earn a stonking salary for over £1k to not be worth 45 mins of your time. 🙄

donajimena · 22/06/2019 15:52

Go into a branch then.

newmomof1 · 22/06/2019 15:53

Agree with @donajimena - just go to your local branch.

Or let them keep your £1200 for the sake of an hour long phone call 🙄

SummerLovinHadMeABlast · 22/06/2019 15:55

Quite the opposite which is why I opted for a cheaper holiday!

I'm not panicking about it because I'm 100% confident I will get this refunded (no idea why I wouldn't given that they've acknowledged my balance is overpaid). I just don't know how long it will take e.g. 5-7 days, a week?

Thought I'd be quicker asking on here if anyone else has been in a similar situation than phoning. I may just phone, though.

Branch won't help me as it's an online booking.

donajimena · 22/06/2019 16:03

Phone then.

timeforawine · 22/06/2019 16:09

If you don't want to phone i'd sign up to Twitter and tweet them, i normally do that and get a reply reasonably quickly

fizznchips · 22/06/2019 16:16

Speak to their payments team on ‭020 3451 2590‬, they are open 9am to 6pm mon to say, I got through immediately when I needed to speak to them.

Beautiful3 · 22/06/2019 16:18

You have to phone up!

straighttalker33 · 22/06/2019 16:27

Tweet them

Mammatron · 22/06/2019 16:50

I phoned TUI on Thursday morning, they answered straight away and solved my query in seconds- you could have had your answer in the time it took to make this thread!

ourkidmolly · 22/06/2019 16:56

I think they’ll hold it as a credit against future holiday bookings.

PenguinsRabbits · 24/06/2019 19:25

If you don't want to phone I would e-mail back and say can the balance overpaid be refunded please though you may need to phone as some companies need you to confirm where to refund to.

wobytide · 25/06/2019 11:22

I'm not panicking about it because I'm 100% confident I will get this refunded

because the travel industry has no history of sudden administrations leaving people stranded overseas or out of pocket

fuzzyduck1 · 26/06/2019 07:45

Walk into one of thereshops and get them to refund the money. And don’t leave before you get it.

Handcuffs work just chain yourself to something if they refuse to help.

SummerLovinHadMeABlast · 26/06/2019 14:01

Hi all

Just wanted to say thank you for the replies and push to phone. Turns out they aren't automatically alerted that the balance is overpaid so my phonecall prompted them to look at this and initiate the refund. It will take 3 to 5 working days.

Hopefully this information is helpful to anyone else googling at some point in a similar situation .

Yes I have had the same thing, I too have overpaid, tried ringing twice then got cut off, very frustrating! Not sure where to go with this one!
